Project Manager (Technical Process)

Job Introduction

This role will be working within a small team reporting directly to the Technical Process and Compliance Lead. The SCS JV (Skanska/Costain/STRABAG Joint Venture) Technical Directorate Department is comprised of Design Management, Engineering, Technical Interface, Temporary Works, Materials, Technical Assurance, Quality Management, Ground Investigation and Survey and are responsible for delivery of the technical requirements of the project.

The SCS delivery programme is based upon the development and application of a common data environment with appropriate automated workflows and notifications to expedite the delivery process in the most efficient consistent and timely manner.

The Technical Process and Compliance team are providing a coordinated approach to the management and maintenance of the Technical Quality Management System (TQMS), including modelling, improvement and oversight of the documents that comprise the TQMS. The Project Manager – Technical Process will provide planning and PM activities in line with maintenance and development of the projects Technical Quality Management System.

They will adopt new planning techniques as applicable, to drive continuous improvement of the planning for TQMS activities

Role Responsibility

  • To support the Technical Process and compliance Lead in the planning of the TQMS initiatives within the project.
  • To support the Technical Process  and compliance Lead to ensure TQMS activities are delivered against the plan.
  • Tracking progress of deliverables and identifying necessary actions, mitigation and recovery plans.
  • Create and maintain resource profiles and projections against plans.
  • Work in the team following an agile approach.
  • Coordinate activities and appropriate workshops with stakeholders.
  • Identify, document, and advocate best practice.
  • Contribute to and develop the planning methodology for TQMS related activities.
  • Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the company's operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implemented on the project.
  • Provide metrics and KPIs for monthly reporting.
  • Provide plans, Gantt charts and metrics to cover: Technical and Process RACI, Independent Organisation activities, yearly TQMS updates, alignment to Common Data Environment(CDE) team plan and plan for change identified coming from the client.
  • Ensure plans are adhered to by stakeholders and drive adherence by tracking, reporting and escalating as appropriate.
  • Follow up actions raised whilst delivering TQMS initiatives and activities – E.G actions arising from audit.

The Ideal Candidate

Required qualifications, skills, behaviors, and attributes

  • Knowledge of project management fundamentals.
  • Experience of working at a similar level in a multi-disciplined project environment.
  • High standard of verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills, able to effectively communicate concepts to variety of audiences.
  • Good information management and analytical skills, able to quickly and efficiently seek out the relevant and pertinent points from large volumes of project information.
  • Capable of working collaboratively and effectively with project delivery teams, management and the project leadership and credible in building relationships with all levels of stakeholders.

Desirable qualifications, skills, behaviors, and attributes

  • Awareness of the system-based approach, process improvement or quality management disciplines would be advantageous.
  • Awareness of roles, processes and dependencies involved in a large scale multi-discipline, multi-organisation programmes.

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
