Role
The Project Director is accountable for leading the successful delivery of a £600M portfolio of Building and MEP works across 11 assets within the London Tunnels Section of HS2. This role spans the full lifecycle—from design, through construction, to commissioning—ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery aligned with client objectives.
Role Responsibility
Delivery Leadership
- Take full accountability for the end-to-end delivery of Building and MEP scopes (£600M) across 11 assets, including shafts and headhouses. Overseeing all project phases: design integration, construction execution, testing, and commissioning.
- Ensure delivery meets programme, cost, quality, and safety targets, driving improvements through each phase of the works.
Strategic Supply Chain Management
- Build and maintain strong, strategic relationships with key supply chain partners.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture across all delivery partners.
- Drive supply chain alignment with programme objectives, promoting innovation and efficiency.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Understand client objectives, drivers, and success criteria and align delivery strategy and execution plans to meet or exceed client expectations.
- Establish and maintain trusted, senior-level relationships with the client leadership team.
Team Leadership & Culture
- Shape, lead, and develop a high-performing multi-disciplinary team.
- Promote an open, inclusive, and collaborative culture that empowers individuals and supports continuous development.
- Provide clear direction, coaching, and leadership to senior project staff.
Governance & Performance
- Ensure strong project governance, controls, and reporting are in place across all assets.
- Manage risk proactively, ensuring mitigation strategies are implemented effectively.
- Drive continuous improvement across delivery, safety, and operational performance.
The Ideal Candidate
- Proven experience delivering large-scale infrastructure or construction programmes (£100M+ ideally £500M+)
- Strong background in Building and MEP systems delivery within complex major infrastructure environments
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-asset or multi-project portfolios
- Excellent client-facing and stakeholder management skills
- Track record of building and leading high-performing teams and supply chains
- Strong commercial, contractual, and risk management capability

About the Company
The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services
The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
