MEP Engineer

Job Introduction

MEP Engineer required to manage the delivery of works on 1 of the 12 No Assets within the SCS scope of works.

 As the MEP Engineer you will be responsible for the delivery of an element of the works at an asset. Reporting to the MEP Delivery Manager on the Asset you ensure that a quality product is delivered safely and sustainably in accordance with the contract program and requirements.   

 You will work collaboratively with your suppliers and others on the Asset to ensure that the works can be completed efficiently   

Role Responsibility

Safety and Environment 

  • Proactively engage on Health, Safety, and Environmental matters. Ensuring that the works are planned and executed in accordance with SCS and Statutory requirements.
  • Engage with the supply chain workforce to ensure that works are being completed in accordance with the relevant SCS and Statutory requirements, ensuring that corrective actions are implemented. 
  • Ensure that the Construction Team, Sub-Contractors and Suppliers receive or have access to copies of the relevant Health and Safety as well as Environmental Policy and are kept informed of relevant developments and issues.

Quality and Technical Compliance

  • Ensure that all works under your control have identified and managed quality risks, including the completion and recording of installation and commissioning inspections
  • Identify snags and defects in the works and work with the suppliers to identify resolutions 
  • Engineering support for subcontractors, suppliers and 3rd parties. 
  • Develop the subcontract design and construction methodology. Prepare for the delivery of the works, including resources, procurement, consents, and prestart documentation.
  • Internal liaison with the Project Manager, Design and Engineering Team, QA team and Cost Control.
  • External liaison with HS2, Subcontractors / Suppliers and Stakeholders, close co-ordination with the operations and planning team.
  • Co-ordination of works with Temporary site services team, Co-ordination of works with the any Rail Systems interface personal. 

Design Integration and Change Control

  • Reviewing permanent works design and ensuring appropriate input from the construction team during the design
  • Managing the interface between Temporary Works and Permanent Works design, including review of method statements and construction sequences to ensure full integration
  • Management of the interface between construction and design during the construction phase: review of key RFIs from construction to design, approval of proposed change to design following the Field Change process (as part of the management and control of change) and approval of any NCRs raised, including implementing measures to avoid similar non-conformances in future
  • Identifying any changes during construction that could have an impact on either the temporary works design or permanent works design and control of that change

Delivery 

  • Develop the subcontract design and construction methodology. Prepare for the delivery of the works, including resources, procurement, consents, and prestart documentation.
  • Interface with the Asset Lead, MEP Delivery Manager and other members of the delivery team to ensure that your works and requirements are integrated into the main design programme. 
  • Internal liaison with the Project Manager, Design and Engineering Team and QA Team. 
  • External liaison with HS2, Subcontractors / Suppliers and Stakeholders, close co-ordination with the operations and planning team.
  • Co-ordination of works with Temporary site services team, Co-ordination of works with the any Rail Systems interface personal. 

Commercial

  • Understand the form of Contract and develop detailed site specific programmes, assess actual programme and productivity achieved and review weekly, taking action where appropriate, and reporting any changes to the Project Manager and QS department.
  • Be fully conversant with subcontractor’s contract conditions, assist to develop job specific subcontract conditions and manage the subcontractors account with the QS team.
  • Communicate to the Project Manager, QA and QS teams non-conformances and any instructions received from the client / designer / RE’s staff. 
  • Keep a full and accurate daily site diary, including any changes / variations, subcontractors’ attendance, and records of work related discussions with Client / Designer / Project Team.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience of the delivery of Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health systems including design, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover. 
  • A professional qualification or degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related subject 
  • Knowledge of construction techniques, sequencing, and best practice.
  • Knowledge and understanding of working to and implementing NEC construction contracts.
  • Capable of working independently and proactively to progress works but also skilled at working collaboratively with other integrated team members and external stakeholders for the overall benefit of the project.
  • Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Document Control Systems, Auto CAD).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to adjust communication style to suite receiver.
  • Relevant CSCS Card.
  • SMSTS/SSSTS

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
