Head of PMO

Job Introduction

We have an exciting vacancy for a Head of PMO to join the Senior Leaderhip Team on our SCS Railways JV.

The purpose of the role is to lead the development and provision of strategic, project-wide, management information to allow the successful long term delivery of the project and achievement of project objectives

Direct reports: Head of Risk, Head of Project Controls, Head of Strategic Schedule Integration and Governance (SSIG).

Role Responsibility

  • Providing project information, forecasts, and reporting to ensure the successful consistent delivery of the works to the requirements of the HS2 Act, contract works information and SCS JV procedures. 
  • Managing interdependencies and coordination across Delivery Units to ensure that information and data relating to project deliverables, opportunities, risks and issues are effectively communicated and managed between stakeholders and that key performance indicators are monitored and evaluated.  
  • Identifying and defining the major strategic issues for the project and integrating diverse stakeholder interests with the project’s broader agenda to inform the development and prioritisation of project initiatives and to proactively understand and mitigate risks.
  • Define an implement a strategy for the provision of integrated Management Information (MI) that include risk, schedule and cost data, lead the design and implementation of a common project management methodology, document control, information flow with standards and tools to drive and facilitate the successful delivery of projects
  • Provide a longer term view of project performance, and ensure that focus remains on achieving strategic delivery objectives
  • Develop and implement an effective governance process for cost, schedule and risk that provides confidence in the MI presented
  • Demonstrate, through visible leadership, the expected Skanska Costain Strabag JV Culture, Values and Behaviours.
  • Act at a programme level, ensuring best for programme behaviours, approaches and decision making.
  • Develop an effective team through leadership and culture, structure, recruitment assessment and development of the team and its members.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Proven ability to think strategically and to provide valuable input to strategic development and decision making.  
  • Experience of developing structured processes, procedures and tool sets to facilitate strategic decision making.  
  • Experience in performance reporting (metrics, dashboards and balanced scorecards). Further experience of reporting on earned value, including the bespoke development of Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS).  
  • Experience with cost control, bottom-up forecasting, managing cost to complete reporting production outputs and implementing necessary reporting procedures  
  • Able to create effective, communication and reporting processes through strong presentation and interpersonal skills. 
  • The proven ability to set and achieve change initiatives closely aligned to strategic objectives.
  • Operating Skills – priority setting and ability to deal with complexity and create common approaches with various stakeholders
  • Energy & Drive – drive for results / perseverance / future -focused and clear aspiration to improve and ability to deliver
  • Personal & Interpersonal Skills – ability to create an inclusive environment to ensure input from diverse groups. Clear leadership in ethics and values / integrity and trust / motivating others 

About the Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
