Head of Project Controls

Job Introduction

We are looking for a Head of Project Controls to join our team on HS2 Main Works Civils Contract. As the Head of Project Controls, you will be ultimately responsible for driving continued success of the Project Controls Team to facilitate the delivery of a major project. You will report to the Project Management Office Director.

 The project operates an Integrated Project Team (IPT) approach. The client and contractor work collaboratively on a day-to-day basis in an embedded team.

Role Responsibility

  • Devising strategies, initiatives and recommendations for effective data-driven delivery solutions 
  • Building collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Accountable for accuracy of consistent, transparent and reliable information in line with contractual requirements 
  • Overseeing continual improvement of Project Controls processes and systems
  • Leading technical / programme presentations with clients, partners and suppliers on project progress including earned value, cost performance, challenges and concerns
  • Foster a culture that encourages positive project challenge to achieve programme targets
  • Keeping abreast of innovation and best practices in Project Controls; critically appraising them and introducing to the project if benefit is demonstrated.
  • Processing statutory requirements as they affect the Joint Ventures operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implemented on the project
  • Continuing growth of the team ensuring the right behaviour by developing a diverse and inclusive culture 
  • Providing guidance and support to the project controls team, and developing the skills and competencies of project controls staff
  • Championing health, safety & wellbeing activities
  • Adhering to SCS policies and procedures

The Ideal Candidate

  • Demonstrable experience in establishing project controls systems in multi-project or mega-project environments within the construction industry
  • Demonstrable experience of managing large, de-centralised teams
  • Demonstrable excellent knowledge of all project controls functions
  • Demonstrable experience in building lasting relationships and leading strong, motivated teams
  • Demonstrable experience in implementing strategic initiatives 
  • Demonstrable experience working in a time-pressurised environment with competing deadlines and demands
  • Clear communication skills and cultural awareness to be able to communicate with accuracy and clarity through a wide spectrum of stakeholders

About the Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
