Foreman – Fit Out & External / Public Realm Works

Reporting to a General Foreman, this role would suit an experienced construction professional with strong building and external works experience, including fit out, cladding and public realm works. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, coordination and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple trades in complex, live environments.

Role Responsibility

  • Supervising direct labour and subcontractors delivering building fit out, façade/cladding works and external/public realm works to specification and programme.
  • Overseeing internal fit out activities including finishes, partitions, ceilings, MEP interfaces and handover quality standards.
  • Supervising external works including paving, kerbing, drainage, street furniture, hard and soft landscaping, access routes and associated infrastructure.
  • Ensuring safe systems of work are developed, communicated and implemented in line with the Target Zero safety approach.
  • Planning and maintaining safe, clean and organised working areas, particularly in public-facing and operational environments.
  • Coordinating sequencing of cladding/façade works, scaffolding and access requirements in line with programme constraints.
  • Monitoring workmanship and quality to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications and inspection test plans (ITPs).
  • Assisting in the production and review of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Contributing to 4-week lookahead programmes and collaborative planning sessions.
  • Identifying, planning and managing labour and plant requirements.
  • Delivering daily briefings and toolbox talks.
  • Maintaining accurate site records including labour returns, inspections, quality checks, delays and communications with client and subcontractors.
  • Supporting snagging, de-snagging and handover processes to achieve required quality standards.
  • Ensuring environmental controls are implemented to minimise disruption, noise, dust and impact on surrounding areas.
  • Demonstrating personal commitment to the Project Management Plan and quality objectives.
  • Ensuring delivery documentation is correctly recorded and submitted to the commercial/accounting team.

The Ideal Candidate

  • NVQ Level 3 Front Line Supervision (or equivalent)
  • CSCS Card
  • SSSTS
  • First Aid at Work
  • Proven experience in building construction, internal fit out and façade/cladding works
  • Experience delivering public realm or external works packages
  • Strong understanding of finishing trades and quality control standards
  • Experience working in live or high-profile infrastructure environments (desirable)
  • Ability to interpret drawings and specifications
  • Good working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and CDM requirements
  • Strong coordination and communication skills
  • Experience managing subcontractors and multiple trades

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
