Electrical Supervisor Tunnelling

Job Introduction

Reporting directly to the Electrical Superintendent on day-to-day basis regarding safety, quality, productivity of electrical operations; the Electrical Foreman will be responsible for overseeing all the electrical plant, distribution and services required for the construction of the Tunnels and site setup at Area Central and associated works.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Safety critical role overseeing all Electrical, Surface, Tunnels and Shaft works – Temp site services and then tunnel construction works, TBM construction, communications & control systems.
  • Compliance with Costain Way Safe Systems of Works
  • Oversee all the electrical personnel and electrical plant and distribution and associated activities as required.
  • Electrical Supervisor - Controls will be responsible for, but not limited to; delegating work among the electrical personnel, liaising with the Electrical Superintendent to organize shift patterns as the job progresses, procurement of materials, daily allocation sheets for labour, overseeing management of spare parts, implement and manage PPM system, overseeing test and inspection regime. Oversee construction of TBMs and HV package substations.
  • HV SAP with specialist knowledge of control systems and comms as well as TBM’s
  • Maintain all records of inspections and maintenance (planned & unplanned)  

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Close liaison with the immediate tunnel construction team on requirements and programme.
  • Close liaison with the SCS Safety team.
  • Promoting and monitoring the roll out and implementation of SCS values and behaviours.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential:

  • JIB Approved Electrician
  • Experience in a similar level role, responsible for the electrical distribution and personnel.
  • An accepted City & Guilds Apprenticeship or equivalent professional electrical qualification or HNC, HND or Eng. Tech. in Electrical Engineering
  • SMSTS
  • Strong leadership, communication and conflict management skills
  • In depth knowledge of industry regulations for, construction and testing and commissioning of tunnelling electrical equipment and services e.g. Health & Safety in Tunnelling in The Construction Industry (BS 6164: 2019), IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671: 2018)
  • Highly experienced in Tunnelling works; minimum 15 years.
  • Proven track record working with various TBM manufacturers.
  • Experienced HV SAP
  • Proficient at working with PLC’s to programming level.
  • Knowledge of robotics and automated systems.
  • High level English (written and spoken)

 

Desirable:

  • Expert knowledge of products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards.

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts which include both

Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). The combined value of the contracts is

around £1.8billion with the works due for completion in 2025. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
