CAD Lead Utilities

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

A clear resource gap has become apparent whereby current resources in the area teams are not sufficient to carry out the following functions to an acceptable level:

  1. Producing surveys within a DGN format. Either using MicroStation, AECOsim or Open Building Designer.
  2. Using the projects Common Data Environment (ProjectWise) to store and share surveys.
  3. Understands PAS128 & PAS256.
  4. Producing CAD models to SCS Utilities CAD standards as well as the SCS Project and Utilities BEPs
  5. Able to process and model Photogrammetry surveys.
  6. Keeping a Master Coordinated Survey Model for Utilities up to date so that it is one source of truth and not containing duplicate information.

Role Responsibility

The SCS utilities team are currently using Site Engineers or AutoCAD technicians to produce their CAD requirements. These models are not in the correct CAD format, to the SCS CAD Standards or shared within the Common Data Environment set out in the Works Information and BEPs. The team are not always in the position to record information like uncharted services on site, or they do but are restricted by other activities that take a greater priority, so the update might not get recorded in the Master Model and therefore on JV Maps.

The Utility CAD Lead would assist in these activities, offering MicroStation support, advice and upskilling our workforce where required in utility surveying, recording and modelling techniques. They would also apply their expertise in utility records and knowledge of Utilities to help validate the multitude of Utility data sets that we have on JV Maps and help clean up these datasets so they can be used on site free of duplicate information. This is especially prevalent in uncontrolled area’s where we are working in the public domain. The Utility CAD Lead can also perform other tasks like processing photogrammetry and modelling from photo reality meshes and laser scan data. They can educate our supply chain and internal teams on the importance of a utility survey, its CAD standards how to share the information with others. But most importantly, they will be in charge of keeping our one source of truth, our Master Coordinated Utilities Model up to date.

Without the additional resources, there is a risk of, duplicate data. Insufficient information to assist with site mark-ups. Data such as trial holes or As Builts being missed off adding a significant safety risk to the project.

It is proposed that the Utility CAD Lead will keep an Existing Master Coordinated Utilities Model up to date. They will work to the SCS Utilities CAD standards, SCS Project and Utilities BEPs and have a good understanding of PAS128/ 256 standards.

He/ She will process and model from Photogrammetry 3MX files all within Bentley MicroStation or AECOsim (Open Building Designer) as well as POD files. They will ensure this data is handed over to the GIS team for updating on the permit to dig system. They can also carry out any other survey activities that may be required by the site team especially with how to capture photogrammetry as this is a new technique to many of our supply chain so can offer advice in both setting up control points and taking photos to the required specification.
