BIM Lead - 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Job Introduction

Overall accountability for the SCS BIM management, as well as the development and implementation of the SCS BIM approach across all project disciplines and the interface with the DH BIM Team. Regular liaison with the HS2 BIM team and with other MWCC and works packages to ensure sharing of best practices, innovation and continuous improvement. 

Role Responsibility

The BIM Manager is responsible for:  

  • Leading the BIM project team, including briefing and guidance of the BIM team, project team, subcontractors, suppliers and 3rd parties on the SCS BIM approach, BEP and relevant software. 

  • Defining and Implementing strategies, standard methods & procedures (SM&Ps) and time-tables that fulfil the Employer Information Requirements (EIR), are compliant with Level-2 BIM, are aligned with all relevant BIM standards and take account of relevant UK government construction strategies and standards 

  • Complete and Integrate the BIM Execution Plan (BEP) with the overall Project Execution Plan and Design Management Plan, including implementation and management of the BEP via change control procedures. 

  • Providing focal point for information management issues on the project 

  • Ensuring procedures are in place to assess subcontractor & supplier BIM capabilities 

  • Providing relevant upskilling in software programmes as well as SM&Ps in order to ensure that the stakeholders have the necessary background and competencies to participate in the information exchanges within the Common Data Environment (CDE) as well as BIM workflows. 

  • Monitoring and Enforcing the project team’s compliance with the SM&Ps, efficient information exchanges through the CDE, and timetables defined in the BEP as well as the progress towards achieving the client objectives in the EIR. 

  • Accountable for the development of the BIM strategy, environment, procedures and model structures for varies components and assets. 

  • Accountable for delivering the Employer’s BIM requirements as described in the accepted BEP: high-quality BIM Deliverables including, but not limited to information-rich BIM models, model-based 2D drawing extracts and visualisations according to the agreed timetable in the BEP and the delivery milestones of the Project Programme for ECI Stage One and Stage Two. 

  • Facilitating and Managing the BIM information exchange processes among SCS project team members, HS2, subcontractors and suppliers, including the efficient exchange of information through the CDE. 

  • Sharing and Managing the PIM (Project Information Model) and the AIM (Asset Information Model) via the CDE.  

  • Planning and Coordinating BIM information management to ensure that relevant meta-data to support downstream processes is captured at its source & implemented in the BIM model 

  • Managing interfaces with other functional teams including, but not limited to: DH BIM team, estimation, planning, construction execution, and subcontractor BIM teams.   

  • Liaising with the client’s BIM team and with other MWCC and works packages to ensure sharing of best practice, innovation and continuous improvement.  

  • Communicating and presenting BIM relevant topics and the SCS BIM approach to HS2 and stakeholders in support of the interface manager.  

  • Guiding and Developing the BIM team in terms of skills & competencies as well as encouraging behaviours / cultures  supporting collaboration 

  • Growing the team where necessary / providing assistance in recruiting BIM personnel 

  • Driving innovation, EDI and the upskilling of the BIM and project team to deliver a next generation BIM approach and continuous improvement. 

The Ideal Candidate

  • Degree or equivalent in civil engineering or an appropriate professional qualification 

  • Prior experience in a leading BIM function in civil engineering 

  • Prior experience of managing a BIM Team is an asset 

  • Thorough knowledge of the development and implementation of BEPs and BIM processes (bringing it alive) 

  • Knowledge of the UK BIM Framework: BS1192 and PAS1192 suite of standards and Government Construction Strategies 

  • Strong leadership and communication skills 

  • Relevant CSCS Card

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
