Assistant Logistics Manager (International)

Job Introduction

The Assistant Logistics Manager (International) will support the SCS Logistics team in managing logistics operations across the HS2 main works. The role will assist in planning and coordinating the importation, exportation, and delivery of major construction equipment and materials from outside of the UK.

The primary objective is to ensure that all international movements are effectively planned, documented, and coordinated between site teams, logistics leads, manufacturers, shippers, and transport companies.

Working under the guidance of the Logistics Manager (International) and in collaboration with the Area Logistics Managers, the postholder will help deliver a reliable and compliant logistics service to the project.

Key to the role is supporting relationship management with site construction teams, the procurement team, and area logistics teams to maintain strong communication, resolve day-to-day queries, and contribute to continuous improvement across logistics operations.

All members of the Logistics team are expected to work collaboratively, providing support and cover where needed, and contributing to the development and implementation of best practice across the programme.

This role is suitable for individuals with experience in construction or logistics who are seeking to broaden their understanding of large-scale project delivery. The position offers exposure to complex, international supply chains and will suit someone with strong coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Role Responsibility

  • Support the planning and organisation of importation, exportation, and delivery of major construction equipment and materials.
  • Assist the SCS Tunnelling and Civils Teams in developing and maintaining processes for managing and controlling equipment and consumables.
  • Help establish, communicate, and maintain equipment plans, delivery timelines, and associated documentation.
  • Liaise with site teams, manufacturers, freight forwarders, and transport companies to coordinate logistics activity.
  • Prepare, review, and process necessary documentation and payments to ensure smooth customs clearance and transit into the UK.
  • Ensure deliveries are forecasted, booked-in, and tracked through the SCS logistics systems.
  • Support the preparation of logistics management reports and KPI summaries for internal and client use.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating abnormal load movements in consultation with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain customs clearance forecasts and ensure relevant data accuracy.
  • Provide administrative and coordination support to the Logistics Manager as required.
  • Carry out any other duties appropriate to the nature of the role, in support of the wider SCS Logistics function.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Good Understanding of Construction Logistics Environment 
  • Project management & planning
  • Knowledge of abnormal load transit organisation
  • Dealing with freight forwarders & customs clearance administration
  • Working with construction site teams
  • Compiling KPIs and reports
  • Good knowledge of site establishment and ongoing operation and maintenance
  • Good knowledge of safe operational practice of vehicles, equipment and methods of loading and off-loading
  • Good knowledge and practical experience of materials scheduling planning and organising deliveries to/from sites
  • Experience of liaison with stakeholders including local authorities, police and highways authorities
  • Working knowledge of Code of Construction Practice, CLOCS, FORS, Safety at Street Works COP
  • Good Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience of working in complex operational and political environments, working at pace to deadlines and responding to rapidly changing circumstances and objectives
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English (essential)
  • Good organisation skills (essential)
  • Good IT skills eg Excel, Word, PowerPoint (essential)

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
