Utilities Coordinator

Role Responsibility

  • Being familiar with all aspects of activities on site which involves any ‘breaking of ground activity’
  • Assisting the site utility surveyor with the utility mark ups on site as and when required to PAS128 standard
  • Ensuring that services are marked up and maintained in accordance with the SCS avoidance of underground and overhead services document.
  • Ensuring that the excavation team have the most accuarate / up to date information provided to them
  • Briefing the work force on the presence of any services which are within their designated works area including any exclusion zones which are in force and any additional control measures as detailed in the permit to disturb ground.
  • Assisting with the updating of the services model
  • Inspecting the works on a regular basis to ensure the permit to disturb ground process is being followed and adhered to, and if not satisfied with the control measures in place stop the works until satisfied that works can proceed safely
  • Approving permits to disturb ground as the ‘authorised person’ in the absence of Permit Controller
  • Report to Area East Permit Controller for any necessary advice and support when required

The Ideal Candidate

  • Familiar with the use of cable detection equipment including RD8100 and ground penetrating radar with a minimum qualification of NVQ level 5 in utility mapping and surveying
  • Previously undertaken a similar role elsewhere and have excellent knowledge of safe working methods and procedures around services
  • Experience with working in the utilities industry and be familiar with standards, practices and procedures
  • Has excellent communication skills and be able to deliver briefings to work force
  • Has a good understanding of PAS128 and the coding system
  • Be proficient in the use of AutoCAD

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
