Site Engineer

Job Introduction

Support the Section Engineer in the Engineering requirements of the projects, to include the setting out of the works and continual monitoring of the progress and quality of the works LIAISING with the Works Manager/GF, and Agent/PM.

Role Responsibility

Site Engineer duties and responsibilities:

  • Fulfil the role of Shift  Engineer on during the Sprayed Concrete Lining operations;
  • Day to day work site coordination and planning to ensure the works are carried out safely and efficiently;
  • Working with team to develop and draft Risk Assessment Method Statements in a timely manner;
  • Working with subcontractors to ensure the timely preparation Risk Assessment Method Statements;
  • Development and implementation of Inspection and Test Plans and associated check sheet for the works.  Ensuring and undertaking quality checks in accordance with the ITP’s and properly recorded;
  • The management of non-conformance reporting and managing the non-conformances on site until complete;
  • Drafting of Permits for the works;
  • Preparation and maintenance of registers to support the safe system of works;
  • Ensuring Temporary Works and other safety systems are implemented;
  • Liaison with the Site Foreman to ensure the adherence to safe methods of work;
  • Ensuring all temporary works needs are identified sufficiently early and completed in accordance with the relevant procedures;
  • Manage Graduate and Apprentice Engineers and
  • Setting out and checking of the works.

Health, Safety and Environment:

  • Ensuring health and safety is given the highest priority in the delivery of the works
  • Be familiar with, and demonstrate commitment to the requirements of the Health & Safety and Environmental Policies
  • Ensure that the Health Safety and Environmental Policies and Procedures are effectively communicated to the workforce and implemented
  • Work collaboratively with the HS2 team and other contractors, subcontractors works packages to achieve the overall project goals.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Degree level qualification in a Civil Engineering allied subject or BETec in Civil Engineering and vocational training in Engineering
  • Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, Document control system)
  • Relevant CSCS Card
  • Training in Health & Safety and Environmental management
  • Experience in tunnelling, shafts, rc, highly advantageous
  • Experience in setting out
  • Heavy civils experience, ideally on high value project
  • Reinforced Concrete, tunnelling or piling experience advantageous
  • Writing RAMS required
  • Previous experience in deep foundations and/or tunnels is highly advantageous

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts which include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). The combined value of the contracts is around £1.8billion with the works due for completion in 2025.  Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
