Site Engineer

Job Introduction

We are looking for a Site Engineer for Self-delivered FRC works predominantly but will be involved in the safe delivery of Subcontractor packages to a high-quality e.g cladding and steel frame. The role is for the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high-speed rail network. 

Location: Kilburn, London

  • The site is operational Monday to Friday 07:00 to 19:00, some extended hours to meet these site hours can be expected on rotation. Occasional Saturday works 07:30 to 13:00.

Role Responsibility

  • The Site Engineer will liaise between Section Engineer, General Foreman to ensure effective day to day work site coordination and planning to ensure the works are carried out safely and efficiently
  • Ensuring all quality checks are carried out in accordance with the ITP’s and properly recorded.      
  • Setting out with Total Station.
  • The management of non-conformance reporting and managing the nonconformances on site until complete.
  • Feed into the 6-weekly programmes look ahead in conjunction with section Engineers for review at the weekly progress meetings.
  • Drawing take-off for timely material ordering and delivery.
  • Monitoring rebar and formwork installation in accordance with permanent design, Temp works designs and ITP.
  • Reviewing rebar and formwork drawings. Ensure an understanding of the scope so you can identify changes.
  • Assist in drafting inspection and test plans, risk assessments and method statements and for the control of the works for review and approval.
  • Produce as built records, fill in ITP check sheets and other required construction assurance documentation
  • Deliver start of shift briefings, inductions and toolbox talks.
  • Communicate to the Quality Assurance and Quantity Surveyor teams’ non-conformances, and any instructions received from the client / designer / RE’s staff. Ensure that comprehensive records of resources employed on additional works are maintained.
  • Keep a full and accurate daily site diary, including any delays, changes / variations, subcontractors’ attendance, and records of work-related discussions with client / designer / RE / project team.
  • Adherence to project policies and procedures.
  • Attendance to Quality and Temp Works meetings
  • Working with the subcontractor to ensure the timely preparation Risk Assessment
  • Method Statements, Inspection and Test Plans, Permits, Consents etc for the works and that these are implemented.

 

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Ensuring health and safety is given the highest priority in the delivery of the works.
  • Be familiar with and demonstrate commitment to the requirements of the Health & Safety and Environmental Policies
  • Ensure that the Health Safety and Environmental Policies and Procedures are effectively communicated to the workforce and implemented.
  • Work collaboratively with the HS2 team and other contractors, subcontractors work packages to achieve the overall project goals.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Degree level qualification in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HND/HNC in Civil Engineering and vocational training in Engineering
  • Understanding of Engineering Principles
  • Technical knowledge of construction/ RC works.
  • Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, Document Control Systems).
  • Relevant CSCS Card
  • Training in Health & Safety and Environmental management (SMSTS)
  • Presentation Skills Training (inductions / briefings etc).

 

Desirable

  • The Tunnelling Safety Training Scheme (TSTS) desirable.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.
  • TWS/TWC
  • Experience with formwork reinforced concrete works, ground works, piling, steel frame structures, cladding packages, building fit out.

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
