Site Engineer

Job Introduction

We are currently recruiting for Site Engineers within our Area West (West Ruislip) Delivery team on our HS2 London Tunnels Contract. 

This role will specifically be working in the Copthall tunnel team and Harvil road team.

The Copthall Tunnel will be located within the London Borough of Hillingdon, between Harvil Road in the west and Breakspear Road South in the east. The site is north of the existing Chiltern Line railway and south of Newyears Green Lane.

The proposed Copthall Tunnel will include two portal entrances at either end, a single-track siding, and five natural ventilation openings at 200m intervals along the top of the tunnel. The tunnel will be constructed using a cut and cover technique, with material being excavated to facilitate the construction of the tunnel concrete box structure. This will then be covered using excavated material, and a new a landscape constructed on top.

Harvil road realignment culvert diversion, creation of FCA’s, 2 bridge structures one of which is over the existing Chiltern line. Final reinstatement of new alignment.

Role Responsibility

  • Initially working with Section teams planning and producing sketches and methodologies for relevant plans and procedures for mobilising.
  • Setting up work sites with General Foreman/ Works manager
  • Working with the subcontractor to ensure the timely preparation Risk Assessment Method Statements,  Inspection and Test Plans, Permits, Consents etc for the works and that these are implemented.
  • Day to day work site coordination and planning to ensure the works are carried out safely and efficiently
  • Ensuring Permit to Dig, Temporary Works and other safety systems are implemented
  • Liaison with the Section Foreman to ensure the adherence to safe methods of work.
  • Ensuring all temporary works needs are identified sufficiently early and completed in accordance with the relevant procedures.
  • Ensuring all quality checks are carried out in accordance with the Inspection Test Plans (ITP) and properly recorded.
  • The management of non-conformance reporting and managing the non-conformances on site until complete.
  • Provide support, assistance, and information to other teams as necessary such as Community Relations, Highways, and Logistics.
  • Update the 4-weekly programme
  • Manage the supply chain to ensure that they deliver in an efficient way and in accordance with the Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements

The Ideal Candidate

  • Degree or equivalent in civil / Environmental engineering or similar
  • Prior experience in Civil engineering / Infrastructure projects especially experience in construction of reinforced concrete structures.
  • Relevant CSCS Card

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
