Shift Tunnel Engineer
Job Introduction
We are recruiting for a experienced Senior Tunnel Engineer for the Area West division in West Ruislip.
The Senior Tunnel Engineer will be part of the “Tunnel Technical Services” team and will report to the
Tunnel Engineering Manager. The “Technical Service Tunnel” team deals with tunnel related activities
across the S1 and S2 project. “Technical Services Tunnel” provides delivery support for the TBM tunnelling
including cross passage, SCL works and mitigation works and covers all engineering related tasks of the
tunnelling activities in the pre-construction and delivery phase of the project.
Ensuring that a common approach to methodology, risk, quality and design is taken across all areas and
innovation, knowledge and best practice is shared to maintain focused on continuous improvement is the
major objective of the team.
The role included the following responsibilities.

Deputises for the Tunnel Engineering manager in his/her absence.
· Represents the SCS Tunnel team at client & Designer meetings
· Contribution to the production of Tunnel Documentation including the development of the
programme for submission and approvals.
· Manages the authorisation for both the UL and DL tunnels to proceed i.e. the DTAP process.
· Developing the submission requirements for tunnel assurance requirements
· Contribution to the engineering review of design submissions
· Contribution to the planning process for the commencement of tunnelling works, including
programme reviews, readiness reviews
Provide detailed sketches and input required for document preparation e.g. RAMS or Construction
Requirement Reports in coordination with Tunnel delivery teams
Assist in the preparation of documents e.g. Temporary works design briefs, work procedures, site installation layouts, interfaces shaft/ tunnels ·
Contribution to the preparation of tender packages of TBM/ tunnel related materials · Understanding of tunnelling design bored tunnels, SCL, Cross Passages, 1st stage concrete & walkways ·
A good understanding of engineering geology, ground risk management, ground movement assessment and mitigation, considering constructability and other relevant aspects (e.g. environmental issues, cost and programme). ·
Communicate with delivery team to ensure full understanding of quality assurance requirements. ·
Capacity to mentor and to provide guidance to less experienced engineers within the team.

The Ideal Candidate
Engineering Degree/HNC or similar in a construction discipline ·
Several years experience in tunneling construction or tunnel engineering ·
Good understanding of tunnelling processes and geotechnical principles, SCL tunnelling knowledge appreciated ·
Knowledge of construction techniques and best practice ·
Understanding of Engineering Principles ·
Computer competence (MS Word, Excel). ·
Technical knowledge of computer assisted design (CAD) software ·
A strong work ethic and an enthusiasm to learn, develop and share knowledge
