Senior Technical Assurance Engineer

Job Introduction

The Technical Assurance (TA) team are responsible for capturing, developing and demonstrating compliance to Stakeholder requirements, facilitating configuration and technical change management, and managing technical assurance activities to achieve self-assured delivery of the project.

The Senior TA Engineer will be responsible for leading on the TA delivery of their assets and reporting this to  Area TA Managers. You will be responsible to support, train, and develop TA Engineers with regards to asset familiarisation and compliance to processes and procedures required to be compliant with Contract Requirements and Works Information.

The Senior TA Engineer will liaise with key technical leads within the project team to manage and monitor work package requirement sets, along with planning the appropriate verification & validation methods to demonstrate compliance. You will regularly meet with the delivery team to ensure a full understanding of their TA commitments and will undertake any training identified to ensure that this knowledge has been delivered and understood. You will also be responsible for attending subcontractor pre-start meetings and to provide training for their compliance to the Subcontractor Works Information.

Role Responsibility

  • Responsible for the delivery of TA Certification for your assets for peer review at each Technical Lifecycle Stage
  • Ensure that TA requirements are at the forefront of any planning and delivery for Design or Construction activities by ensuring that the TA Timeline is fully understood and maintained.
  • Asset/sub-asset programme reviews ensuring that panels and reviews are maintained in line with the Clause 32 programme and TA Timeline.
  • Work with Design Teams, Delivery Teams and Subcontractors offering guidance, support and training
  • Managing the quality of SAP submissions
    • Managing scorecard reviews
    • Liaising with SMEs as required and raising any risk items requiring mitigation
    • Reviewing SAP submissions and providing mentoring and training for TA Engineers in post to ensure that standards are upheld.
  • Project familiarisation training for new TA Engineers in post
  • Providing training, support and guidance to Construction Delivery Leads and their Teams to ensure that progressive assurance is achieved as set out in the Works Information, the Technical Certfication Management Procedure and other guidance documents, and in line with current HS2 standards and specifications.
  • Deputising Area TA Manager as required, in particular with regards to annual leave cover
  • Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the company's operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implemented on the project.

The Ideal Candidate

Required qualifications, skills, behaviours and attributes

  • Previous experience working within Systems Engineering or Technical Assurance environment within a complexed project environment
  • A healthy work ethic that places value on performing at your best.
  • Goal oriented and able to set and measure achievable tasks
  • Diligent, with strong analytical ability and problem solving skills
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook a must
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills

Desirable qualifications, skills, behaviours and attributes

  • Previous supervisory experience in a Construction Assurance field
  • Formal education in an Engineering related subject, such as a Degree or Apprenticeship
  • Exposure to, or an interest in Systems Engineering and Technical Assurance
  • Experience within Civil Engineering or Rail would be advantageous
  • Experience within tunnelling, shafts and/or asset protection & utilities would be advantageous
  • Good attention to detail

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
