Senior Mechanical Superintendent

Job Introduction

Our Skanska Costain STRABAG joint venture team is working in partnership with HS2 to deliver the new London tunnels from Euston to West Ruislip. Our joint venture team is working on sites at Euston, Old Oak Common and West Ruislip, building tunnels 13 miles long and up to 50m deep, supporting delivery of HS2 phase one.

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Superintendent to join our HS2 team onsite in London. You will be responsible for eporting to the Plant Manager on day-to-day basis regarding safety, quality, productivity of mechanical operations and to Tunnel MEP Project Manager for any technical support; the Senior Mechanical Superintendent / Supervisor will be responsible for all the mechanical plant, equipment and services required for the construction of the ALL plant in Area Central Tunnels, Shafts, adits, caverns, cross passages and SCL tunnels.

Role Responsibility

Responsibilities:

  • Safety critical role overseeing all Mechanical shaft works – Temp site services and then shaft / tunnel construction works.
  • Compliance with Costain way Safe systems of works.
  • Oversee all the Mechanical personnel and mechanical plant and equipment and associated activities.
  • Produce and implement the Mechanical Operating Safety Procedures, including; Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS), Task Briefings.

The Ideal Candidate

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in a similar level role, responsible for the mechanical systems & personnel.
  • An accepted City & Guilds Apprenticeship or equivalent professional mechanical qualification or HNC, HND or Eng Tech in Mechanical Engineering
  • Qualification in Construction Management
  • Strong leadership, communication and conflict management skills

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
