Senior General Foreperson - Nights

Job Introduction

You are responsible to your Manager for the execution of your individual job responsibilities. You shall:
 

  • Support your Manager and the staff under your control,
  • Support project working hours, be flexible in changes to working hours and working site locations. 
  • Maintain a good working relationship with Client and other Stakeholders, if applicable.
  • Manage and control your section of the work according to the agreed programmes and
  • Be conversant with all drawings, specifications, and related information for these works.
     

To cover your absence from site during holiday periods, you are to handover your duties to a delegate agreed with your Manager.

Role Responsibility

You are responsible for implementing and maintaining safe systems of work in accordance with Site Health and Safety Management procedures, work instructions and the CPP. This includes a regular assessment of new risks and hazards that may not be specifically covered by safety system documentation already in place. Minimising waste and complying with environmental legislation and site specific environmental controls are also part of your responsibilities.

Your specific duties and responsibilities on this project are listed below: 

  • Understand from the SHE Plan your role in the SHE management system.  Be committed to the continuous improvement of SHE matters to achieve better than industry standards and zero accidents. Actively promote the values established by the SHE Management Plan and set a personal example of the practice required therein.
  • Know the statutory requirements related to Costain Skanska Strabag activities.  Comply with arrangements for implementing and monitoring legislative and company requirements to ensure that Safe Systems of Work are being followed. (Including the work of other contractors or subcontractors).
  • Understand the site emergency procedures and their role in the event of an emergency and ensure that the procedures are communicated to all at the workplace.
  • Before commencing works ensure that the operators, operatives, and sub-contractors attend and understand a Task Safety Briefing prepared in conjunction with the engineer.
  • Ensure regular Toolbox Talks to operatives and sub-contractors using suitable material and maintain records of attendees.
  • Ensure that safe systems of work are followed, including the work of other contractors or sub-contractors.
  • Ensure that all machinery, plant, equipment, portable tools, and electrical systems are properly installed, regularly inspected and maintained in good condition to minimise environmental damage or pollution and safeguard employee’s Health and Safety and ensure that adequate records are maintained. Activity undertaken through spot checks and delegation to Stores Person and other site personnel.
  • Restrain persons from taking risks, prohibit horseplay and commend those operatives who by action or initiative eliminate hazards.  Ensure that the Site Rules are complied with at all times. Bring actions to the attention of the Section Manager where necessary.
  • Ensure that high standards of welfare are provided and maintained for all employees.
  • Ensure all accidents, incidents and near misses are reported in accordance with the requirements set out in the SHE Management Plan.  Be responsible for informing the Senior Managers of any incidents or accidents with immediate response. Co-operate with all investigations into incidents and accidents and assist in obtaining statements as required.
  • Ensure all employees, under their control, are competent and adequately trained in Health, Safety and Environment in the operation of plant and equipment and the processes involved in the workplace.
  • Know and understand their own and their team’s legal responsibilities specific to the work they are carrying out.
  • Be responsible for implementation of environmental and heritage management operational control on site.

The Ideal Candidate

 

QUALIFICATIONS   

Essential

 

 

Vocational training - successful      experience at senior general foreperson level. NVQ level 6 Black card, First Aid 3 day, Crane Supervisor, SMSTS, SEATS , MEWP for Managers , Fire Marshal trained , craneage and piling operations. Conversant with BS6164.

Desirable

 

 

NVQ level 7 site management desirable and MCIOB, appointed person lifting operations. good understanding of lifting.

 

 

EXPERIENCE

 

Essential

Comprehensive understanding and experience of a wide range of construction techniques and best practices. Experience in heavy RC Civils,  Management piling operations .

Desirable

 

Understanding of engineering principles.

 

KNOWLEDGE

& SKILLS

Essential

 

Relevant CSCS card, training in Health & Safety and Environmental Management. knowledge of SCL , Shaft sinking, tunnelling . Heavy RC Civils. 

Desirable

 

Basic computer competence: e-mail MS Word, Excel & SCS IT.

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
