Senior Engineering Manager - Headhouses MEP

Job Introduction

The Headhouses MEP Senior Engineering Manager (SEM) is responsible for the engineering delivery of the various headhouse MEP assets (see split on page 3); leading and coordinating all relevant engineering disciplines within the TSDU, Euston and west areas. The inclusion of all areas will be transitional, and SEM will assist in coordinating transition as the project heads towards building work and fit out stages of the project. The SEM ensures the works are technically correct, assured, and coordinated between disciplines including MEP to facilitate delivery. They must collaborate closely with all other SEMs who will be managing Headhouse fit out and Civils disciplines. There will also be requirement to coordinate with tunnel construction and completion teams and relevant operational leads in in all areas with the aim of a delivery of the project to the right first time quality, which is key imperative. 

 

This is a technical management role reporting to the Headhouse and Fitout Engineering Lead.

Role Responsibility

  • Leading the Engineering teams across the assets, ensuring consistency across the asset teams.
  • Discharging appropriate Lead Designer duties
  • Fostering Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) 
  • Championing Health, Safety and Welfare (HS&W)
  • Challenge the team to Innovate and not accept the status quo
  • Lead compliance with the CDM 2015 Regulations from a technical perspective and raise Principal Designer challenges that are impacting the Design and construction
  • Ensure Fire strategy compliance is a key thread through all technical aspects of the Engineering and escalate to Fire Lead when support/issue is required
  • Ensure collaborative working, the right behaviours and culture within the team 
  • Deliver TSDU works in line with the SCS Engineering Management Plan and all other relevant Processes and Procedures 
  • Site Support Budget Owner (CSS) for related technical workstreams
  • Appropriately identify, manage, communicate and mitigate Risk 
  • Prioritise appropriate and integrated technical change control.  Ensuring that it is managed, monitored and the implications (including derogations) are assessed and authorised, as appropriate.
  • Liaise and interface with other appropriate disciplines and third parties: Commercial, Planning, Consents & Engagement etc (not exhaustive list) providing the necessary technical input as the principal project Subject Matter Expert (SME) in regard of Headhouses MEP
  • Ensure that the works are appropriately considerate for maintenance and health, safety and welfare during construction and in-use. 
  • Ensure that the delivered permanent and temporary designs are subject to constructability reviews
  • Management of appropriate technical subcontractors and requirements
  • Identify and implement opportunities for optimization of project programme
  • Management of Design integration and change control during construction
  • Liaise with HS2 client technical representative

The Ideal Candidate

  • Educated to degree or higher and hold relevant professional qualification
  • Sustained Continuing Professional Development. 
  • Extensive experience in project-based design and engineering management across all project stages
  • Extensive experience of large complex projects in the rail, highways, water or energy sectors.
  • Expert understanding of Engineering Principles and extensive technical knowledge
  • Experience of managing the challenges associated with multi-disciplinary teams. 
  • Understanding of digital engineering in design and construction phases and of using the Digital Plan of Works.   
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Relevant CSCS Card

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
