At SCS Railways, we’re proud to be part of one of the UK’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. Our IT team supports more than 2,000 users, managing cloud-based and on-site systems that drive collaboration and innovation across the business.
We’re now seeking a Senior Developer (Data) — a technically skilled, hands-on professional who can design and deliver modern, high-performance data and integration solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the digital systems underpinning a nationally significant project.
Flexible working: this role will be based in the office for a minimum of 3 days per week.
Role Responsibility
As a Senior Developer (Data), you’ll take a lead role in developing and maintaining key data and integration solutions, ensuring they meet the highest standards for quality, security, and performance. You will:
- Lead the design, development, and delivery of solutions across Azure and SaaS platforms.
- Act as the go-to expert for integration architecture, ensuring compliance with best practice and IT policies.
- Collaborate with architects, support teams, and third-party vendors to deliver robust, scalable integrations.
- Troubleshoot issues, oversee production incidents, and drive proactive improvements.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, including design and integration artefacts.
- Ensure all work aligns with security, governance, and enterprise architecture standards.
This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role, combining technical excellence with leadership and strategic thinking.
The Ideal Candidate
You’re an experienced developer or architect with a passion for data, integration, and cloud technology. You’ll bring:
- Proven experience delivering Azure, SQL, and data warehouse solutions.
- Hands-on skills with Azure Cloud Services, Python, Databricks, ETLs, and REST/SOAP APIs.
- Strong understanding of integration design patterns, data pipelines, and cloud-native architecture.
- Experience with DevOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
- A background producing High- and Low-Level Design documents.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- The ability to mentor others and influence technical standards.

About the Company
The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services
The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
