Senior Commercial Manager

Job Introduction

To successfully manage the project finances and contractual obligations internally and externally, including all subcontract packages as a member Project Team within prescribed financial margins of the project to the satisfaction of internal and external clients and within the company’s financial targets. This role is for a commercial lead for the indirect section of the project

Role Responsibility

  • To undertake all responsibilities in line with JV policies and procedures. This includes adhering to the Code of Conduct, Contract Management Procedures and Guidelines
  • In undertaking all responsibilities have a duty to act in the best commercial and financial interests of the JV in delivering set projects and services to time and quality adding best value to the overall JV whilst recognising our Corporate and Social Responsibilities. Promote HS&E standards and culture throughout the projects.
  • Be able to produce preliminaries estimate and assess staffing levels for projects for commercial and production staff
  • Have an objective view on programme period and critical path activities.
  • Be able to set strategy for overcoming issues and implement.
  • Be able to understand the impact of variations on critical path.
  • Be able to assess EOT entitlement for the JV and assess objectively sub-contractor EOT entitlement.
  • Ensure that the obligations and responsibilities of the Project and other stakeholders are properly fulfilled
  • Monitor and manage the scope, notices, terms and conditions of the Contract
  • Monitor, manage and report against the base contract sum or cost plan
  • Manage and use internal financial reporting and payment systems
  • Manage and report the endlife forecasting implemented through internal procedures, the monthly cost / value reconciliations, the variation's procedures and the risk and opportunity management procedures.
  • Undertake line management responsibilities for direct report staff ensuring each is effectively managed, had a current performance review and learning plan and can carry out the duties assigned to them.
  • Management of the Staff organograms and ATR’s related to these roles and the co-ordination of this against the staff budget.

The Ideal Candidate

  • RICS/CICES accredited Degree (or equivalent)
  • Full Membership of RICS or CICES (or equivalent)
  • Post-graduate commercial experience in the construction industry with demonstrable track record of achievement
  • Demonstrable financial and commercial acumen
  • Extensive experience of drafting effective contractual correspondence and the facilitation of collaborative solutions
  • Demonstrable legal, contractual and construction knowledge and experience
  • Experience in implementing and delivering strategic objectives and associated change programmes
  • Confidence and ability to assert influence.
  • A creative, strategic, and innovative approach to problem-solving

About the Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
