Senior Commercial Manager (Change)

Job Introduction

We have a vacancy for a Senior Commercial Manager within the Optioneering, Mitigation & Change (OMC) team on our HS2 London Tunnels Contract.

The OMC team focus is on change pan-project which gives a unique high level perspective on a multi-billion pound project. You will be working for the OMC Commercial Director and be expected to work independently and as part of an integrated team.

Role Responsibility

  • Create and lead a team of knowledgeable commercial staff to deal with the complex commercial issues of the project
  • Lead commercial negotiations with the Client within the operative business environment
  • Lead and/or support commercial negotiations with major supply chain members
  • Ensure the proper communication of the commercial strategy to the wider team
  • Lead all aspects of commercial due diligence and reporting, work closely with operations and finance leads to ensure transparent reporting.
  • Provide strategic guidance, direction and support to the wider team
  • Ensure compliance to Skanska/Costain/STRABAG (SCS) policies
  • Provide commercial and contractual advice to the project team where appropriate.
  • Own the risk management process in both the interest of the project
  • Develop and manage Profit Improvement Plans to improve operating income and achieve tendered margin where necessary;
  • Manage interfaces with other disciplines to enable optimal solutions to be established
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders internally and with the client organization to ensure relationships are proactive and effective.
  • Talent management and succession planning for commercial team members. Ensure a robust succession plan and development opportunities for the commercial teams across the programme

The Ideal Candidate

  • RICS/CICES accredited Degree (or equivalent)
  • Full Membership of RICS or CICES (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in leading commercial functions and operating at senior level within large, complex programmes and or businesses preferably within contracting organisations.
  • Commercial awareness partnered with a strategic mindset
  • Relevant experience in managing contracts, from strategic negotiation to operation, ideally within a large scale infrastructure environment
  • Experience in successfully building and leading multi-disciplinary teams
  • Self-motivated and confident
  • Excellent organizational and great leadership skills
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities

About the Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
