Section Engineer
Job Introduction
Manage and drive the engineering aspects of a section of the works, developing and reporting of section programmes and budgets and ensuring that the works are conducted in accordance with the project requirements. Liaise between different site/project disciplines to ensure effective planning and use of project resources.
Manage and drive the training and development of the Site Engineering team.
Location: Kilburn, London
- Section Engineer will report into the Sub Agent and or Asset Lead.
- The site is operational Monday to Friday 07:00 to 19:00, some extended hours to meet these site hours can be expected on rotation. Occasional Saturday works 07:30 to 13:00.

Role Responsibility
- Manage Construction readiness process and construction phase for your section of works in line with SCS Procedures– ensuring the timely preparation of Risk Assessment Method Statements, Inspection and Test Plans, Permits, Consents etc for the works and that these are implemented.
- Design field change management - offer design change solutions for acceptance of the project’s designer. Working side by side with designer to reach a mutually agreeable design solution.
- Temporary works design- produce design briefs outlining design parameters for designers to base designs on, by reviewing and interpreting drawings, monitor installation of temporary works and check it’s being installed in line design requirements,
- Review drawings, 3D model and specifications to ensure an understanding of the scope so you can identify changes.
- Manage section of works by co-ordinating the activities of the site engineers to ensure all setting-out and quality control procedures are performed in a timely and efficient manner, so as not to impede the construction programme.
- Ensuring all quality checks are carried out in accordance with the ITP’s and properly recorded.
- The management of non-conformance reporting and managing the nonconformances on site until complete.
- Develop 6-weekly programmes with site engineers and simple benchmark productivity measures for the workforce and assess actual programme and productivity achieved for review at weekly progress meetings to include resource requirements.
- Provide weekly updates on section of works at collaborative planning sessions.
- Develop mitigation plans for any delays in section of work.
- Communicate during all stage of works with designer, works managers, foremen, gangers, workforce and sub-contractors and client representatives to ensure full understanding of information, collaboration and joined up planning.
- Communicate to the Quality Assurance and Quantity Surveyors teams non-conformances, and any instructions received from the client / designer / Responsible Engineer’s staff. Ensure that comprehensive records of resources employed on additional works are maintained.
- Procurement of Plant, Materials and Equipment for section of works to meet programme dates.
- Support subcontractors to ensure their design meets requirements. Ensure the timely preparation of Risk Assessment Method Statements, Inspection and Test Plans, Permits, Consents etc for the works and that these are implemented.
- Support Sub Agent to manage subcontractors to ensure they are for filling contractual obligations and delivering the Site works information in line with their contract programme.
- Keep a full and accurate daily site diary, including any changes / variations, subcontractors’ attendance, and records of work-related discussions with client / designer / RE / project team.
- Manage Construction/Technical assurance for section of works in line with SCS procedure - production and management of inspection and test plan record packs, redline drawings, as built records and reports, acceptance of Design construction and verification certificate.
- Adherence to project policies and procedures.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential:
- Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HNC in Civil Engineering and vocational training in Engineering
- Understanding of Engineering Principles
- Temporary Works Supervisor/Co-ordinator experience.
- Technical knowledge of construction techniques and best practices.
- Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, Document control system).
- Relevant CSCS Card
- Training in Health & Safety and Environmental management
- Presentation Skills Training (as they deliver inductions / briefings etc).
Desirable:
- Computer competence (CAD, Primavera software, Synchro).
- Experience with reinforced concrete works, ground works, piling, steel frame structures, cladding packages, building fit out.

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
