Section Engineer - Utilities

Job Introduction

A Utilities Section Engineer is required to assist with the delivery of the multi utility works package and ensuring our contractors are meeting our health and safety requirements, meeting technical standards and completing required documentation on utility sites. The majority of the utility mitigations are outside of the main compound areas.

Role Responsibility

below are the key responsibilities for this role:

 

  • Manage link between Assistant Utility Managers 6/12 month programme responsibility and site engineers day to day site responsibilities. i.e., 6 & 12 week lookaheads, subcontractor performance, site interface with all parties, etc
  • Plan works with site teams and manage all applicable interfaces
  • Day to day supervision of engineers
  • Provide technical support to site engineering team, whilst managing construction activities
  • Health, Safety, Environmental, Quality experience to improve overall site management of utilities
  • Provide site information feedback to the Project Manager and all relevant stakeholders
  • Day-to-day process management
  • Assist with the development and upskilling of current site engineering staff.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential:

  • Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HNC in Civil Engineering and vocational training in Engineering
  • Understanding of Engineering Principles
  • Technical knowledge of construction techniques and best practices.
  • Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, Document control system).
  • Relevant CSCS Card
  • Training in Health & Safety and Environmental management
  • Presentation Skills Training (as they deliver inductions / briefings etc).

Desirable:

  • Utilities background
  • Computer competence (CAD, Primavera software, Synchro).  

About the Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts which include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
