Job Introduction

SCL Agent - Reports to Tunnel Construction Manager.

Role Responsibility

  • ·         Review of Risk Assessments, WASPS and Method Statements – in particular high risk activities to ensure adequacy of risk mitigation

    ·         Carry out briefings (Method Statement, Start of Shift, Safety Alert etc.) as and when required

    ·         Lead weekly SHE inspections and champion SCS and HS2 SHE initiatives

    ·         Ensure safety, environmental and quality non conformances are reported to the Senior Management Team in a timely manner

    ·         Provide support to the Senior Engineer(s) / sub agents on engineering challenges

    ·         Lead Daily Shift Review Meetings

    ·         Overseeing preparation and implementation of Inspection and Test Plans and task specific Check Sheets in line with project QA requirements

    ·         Ensuring site team compiles accurate diaries detailing resources used/activities undertaken/problems encountered during the shift

    ·         Reporting progress against programme and providing detailed narrative on delays/problems/innovation

    ·         Efficient procurement and management of materials

    ·         Optimisation of site layout/setup to maximize efficiency of operation

    ·         Maintain a proactive approach to problem solving in conjunction with the site team as required and reporting on solutions found

    ·         Subcontract Management as required

    ·         Cost reconcilliation

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Ensuring health and safety is given the highest priority in the delivery of the works
  • Be familiar with, and demonstrate commitment to the requirements of the Health & Safety and Environmental Policies
  • Ensure that the Health Safety and Environmental Policies and Procedures are effectively communicated to the workforce and implemented
  • Work collaboratively with the HS2 team and other contractors, subcontractors works packages to achieve the overall project goals

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Understands the scope of the works and can identify change
  • Promoting the pursuit of excellence and continuous improvement, driving innovation, adopting best practice, standardising processes and procedures

The Ideal Candidate

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Engineering Degree/HNC or similar in a construction discipline
  • IOSH or SMSTS or recognised equivalent
  • Extensive experience working with in TBM excavated tunnels with a particular emphasis on excavation of London Clay / Lambeth group utilising an EPB TBM
  • Application of survey control  
  • Short term planning and programming works
  • Temporary works appreciation
  • Material and plant procurement
  • Thorough grounding in quality, safety and environmental methodologies.

 

Desirable Qualifications & Skills

  • Engineering Degree/HNC or similar in Tunnelling/Mining
  • Appointed Person (Cranes)
  • Temporary Works Co-ordinator
  • Member of ICE/IMMM
  • Experience in planning and programming multi discipline works, particularly within the tunnelling industry
  • Temporary works innovation and design
  • Good track record in cost control and opportunity identification
  • Demonstrable record in SHE/quality risk assessment and risk mitigation

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
