Risk Manager

Job Introduction

Responsible for the execution, implementation, and compliance of the SCS Risk Management Plan within the designated contract Area. Manages Risk Engineers and contributes to assist in the maintenance of the Contractor’s Risk Register (in Xactium database). The Senior Risk Manager will report to the SCS Head of Risk, providing quality reports that satisfy the project works information, Project risk management plan, including any additional insight and recommendations to ensure a resilient programme of works.

Role Responsibility

• Assists the Head of Risk in risk communications and the training/education of the SCS project team (including subcontractors and suppliers) on the SCS approach to risk management and build an overall ‘risk aware culture’

• Implementing & monitoring the risk management process of their contract area (Risk identification / qualitative assessment / decision-analysis and quantitative estimation) maintaining a relevant cost (QCRA) and risk schedule (QSRA) analysis

• Engaging with other internal and external stakeholders felt necessary (or as directed by the Head of Risk) such as BIM team, design, consents, procurement, safety, design, technical assurance, commercial and/or change control

• Produce multiple risk reporting in an appropriate way for different audiences (e.g. Project Area Director, Area Department Heads, etc.) to ensure risk awareness on all project levels, specific parts of the JV business and to individuals to understand their accountability for individual risks

• Close collaboration with and guidance to the wider project team by conducting risk reviews to identify risks, produce assessments, and encourage identification and implementation of mitigation measures

• Conducting audits of policy and compliance to Risk Management standards, including liaising with internal and external auditors and risk processes improvements

• Responsible for training, and maintaining skilled resources within Area Risk & Opportunity Management department

• Contributes to integrated risk team meetings and supports across Areas as required, particularly during QCRA and QSRA evaluations

• Supports SCS and HS2 delivery teams by collecting and managing risks associated to project change; reports actively information to Trends and Change Management teams

The Ideal Candidate

• Strong executive level communication skills

• Able to challenge experienced team members on current status-quo

• Resilient attitude to operate in a fast pace environment with different personalities

• Comfortable working on multicultural environments

• Degree in civil engineering desirable or an appropriate risk related professional qualification with extensive working experience

• Prior experience in risk management functions on major projects

• Experienced in performing quantitative cost and schedule risk assessments via Monte Carlo simulation (@risk) and PRA

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts which include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
