Quantity Surveyor

Job Introduction

The role of Quantity Surveyor is responsible for providing accurate and value generating input to projects. The role ensures that all commercial aspects are carried out in accordance with the contract, company policies and procedures, and to the satisfaction of the customer and/or contract leader. This role may work independently or under the direction of a more senior Quantity Surveyor. The QS will be able to demonstrate the ability to function as a member of an integrated team.

Role Responsibility

  • Preparation of internal commercial reporting and any other reports which may be required.
  • Support the preparation of CVRs with full supporting documentation in accordance with the project.
  • Support the preparation of Cost Reports to the Client with contractually compliant supporting documentation.
  • Support the preparation and management of subcontract and material procurement schedules.
  • Administration of subcontractor/supplier accounts from the preparation of detailed requisitions, monitoring and authorisation of subcontract payments through to agreement of final accounts.
  • Undertake the contract administration, including change management and maintain associated registers.
  • Identifying commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change.
  • Challenge & manage in cost control / cost mitigation.
  • Ensure the correct site records are maintained. 
  • Implement a WBS structure to satisfy the Client & Contract requirements.
  • Have an up-to-date Cost to Complete and Risk analysis Register for the Asset(s).
  • Preparation of change events, extension of time claims, final accounts etc for approval by the Asset lead 
  • Measurement of quantities in accordance with the standard methods of measurement as required.
  • Undertake any other work as required of you by your line manager
  • Participate in, and positively promote, the SCS Culture
  • Manage the performance of all staff assigned to you in accordance with legislation and company procedures.
  • Undertake any reasonable duties expected of you.
  • Attend and engage fully in any learning and development activities that are deemed appropriate
  • Carry out all work in accordance with health and safety and any other legal requirements.
  • Participate in team meetings as necessary.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Demonstrable financial and commercial acumen
  • Commercially astute. Excellent knowledge of Standard Forms of Contract (NEC) and Standard Methods of Measurement.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Programming techniques, project controls, risk analysis, contract admin, procurement, cost, claims.
  • Practical approach, logical thought process and a methodical way of working
  • A creative and innovative approach to problem-solving
  • Experience of contributing to procurement and contract strategies
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrable legal, contractual and construction knowledge
  • Confidence and ability to assert influence
  • Hold an RICS/CICES accredited Degree (or equivalent) or enrolled on an accredited part-time post-graduate Degree.

About the Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
