Project Manager

Job Introduction

We have an opportunity for a (Senior) Project Manager to join SCS Railways working in the Uxbridge / Harefield area of where we are a delivering the S1 & S2 lots of HS2.

You will be responsible for managing the construction of Copthall Green Tunnel, Harvil Road over Chiltern line bridge and the re-alignment of Harvil Road through from design through delivery and into completion and handover.

Role Responsibility

This will include:

Managing and leading dedicated teams for the construction of the 900m long Copthall Green Tunnel, construction of the new Harvil Road over Chiltern line bridge and demolition of the existing structure and the permanent diversion of Harvil Road.

 

Managing the liaison between SCS Railways (S2) and ALIGN JV (C1) and ensuring the Interface Control Document is being adhered to and the updating thereof.

 

Working with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to ensure the strategy for Area West is set out and achieved and performance is monitored.

 

Working with other SCS Project Managers to ensure works align to achieve overall area West programme.

 

Escalation of issues raised by the construction teams to functional support leads.

 

Working with the area Planner on the monitoring and updating of Clause 32 programmes and monthly reporting to the Senior Management Team.

 

Production of regular reports and reporting to SLT for escalation.

 

Ensuring manpower and resources are adequate and competent to carry out the works.

 

Carry out regular TRM’s associated with high risk activities.

 

Work with commercial manager to ensure cost controls are implemented, monitored and early warnings and compensation events are managed.

 

Subcontract management of £10m+ sub contracts.

Ensuring safe systems of work are implemented and reviewing of high risk works

Monitoring compliance with all construction health, safety, and welfare regulations

Ensuring contractual conditions of performance are met

Ensuring manpower and resources are adequate and competent to carry out the works

Carry out regular TRM’s associated with high risk activities.

Other tasks as and when required.

The Ideal Candidate

Required qualifications, skill and attributes

Engineering or construction management related qualification (HNC, HND, BSc, MSc, BEng, MEng).

Chartered status (e.g. MICE, CIOB) also an advantage

10 years + experience in the planning and delivery of major infrastructure projects (bulk earthworks, RC works, Cut & Cover Tunnels, Highway realignment & Network Rail interface)

Site Management Safety Training Scheme SMSTS (or equivalent) or higher health and safety qualification e.g. NEBOSH

Good written and oral communication skills

The ability to manage and control complex tasks and lead a number of teams

 

Experience in some or all the following:

Experience in managing works in excess of £100m

Experience in bulk earthworks

Experience in large scale reinforced concrete works

Experience in transportation infrastructure projects (e.g. roads, rail)

Experience in utility diversions

Knowledge of Environmental Minimum Requirements (including HS2’s Code of Construction Practice, etc)

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts which include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). The combined value of the contracts is around £1.8billion with the works due for completion in 2025.  Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
