Project Manager - Asset Protection

Job Introduction

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to join the Asset Protection team.  The Project Manager will work within the Asset Protection Team to ensure the team delivers high-quality and effective solutions to our 3rd Party Stakeholders and Client. They will ensure that the Asset Protection team and their consultants meet the project’s requirements and provide a high level of support and consistency throughout the project life cycle. They will ensure that the team delivers the work to meet its contractual obligations in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

 

The Asset Protection Engineering team are ultimately responsible for the protection of 3rd party assets affected by the HS2 construction works and are required to facilitate the delivery of the project. Therefore, this role will require leading the team, which is made up of Design Managers and Engineering Managers, and looking after the delivery of design and the management on 3rd party assets.

 

The 3rd party assets stakeholders are principally NR and TfL, with related assets such as rail, bridges, retaining walls, stations, and other critical pieces of infrastructure. There are also many other assets impacted, which include sensitive listed buildings and designated heritage assets. All of which will follow different approval processes.

The position reports to the Senior Engineering Manager (Asset Protection and I&M) and will work closely with the Asset Protection Technical Lead as well as liaising with the different delivery teams.

Role Responsibility

This role will principally:

  • Lead and coordinate the project team, including, suppliers and 3rd parties, to achieve the Asset Protection deliverables.
  • Building collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop, maintain and monitor a robust programme that is cascaded and understood by the team
  • Drive and manage the programme to ensure sufficient resources with the necessary skills are in place to deliver the project and the effective and efficient management of those resources
  • Develop forecasts, assess actual programme and productivity achieved, taking action where required. In particular, with consultants through the appropriate contractual and commercial means.
  • Notifying and assessment of project delivery risks, development and implementation of mitigation measures and monitoring of measures.
  • Prepare and present regular reporting, such as bi-weekly and monthly reports, to external and internal stakeholders.
  • Compile performance data, providing insight on this data to the Senior Engineering team.
  • Facilitate decision-making by providing timely reports that are forward-looking.
  • Manage large datasets and provide analysis and commentary on variances, in particular using tools such as Power BI.
  • Provide accurate and consistent information.
  • Seek continuous improvement of reports, requirements, processes, and procedures.
  • Foster a culture that encourages positive project challenge to achieve programme targets.
  • Providing guidance and support to the team, developing the skills and competencies of staff and ensuring the right behaviour by developing a diverse and inclusive culture
  • Promoting and monitoring the roll out and implementation of SCS values and behaviors

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience of leading project-based design and engineering teams (essential)
  • Experience of large complex projects in the rail, highways, water or energy sectors (essential)
  • Experience of reporting and presenting at high level within large organisations (essential)
  • Project Management experience and qualifications (essential)
  • Chartered member of the ICE or equivalent (desirable)
  • Rail experience (desirable)
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Relevant CSCS Card
