Project Accountant/Accounts Payable Supervisor

Job Introduction

We are looking for a Project Accountant to work on HS2 Main Works in the role of A/P Supervisor. In this role, you will be responsible for the Project Bank Account and all reporting and financial administration around this process including payment runs. The role has direct line manager responsibilities for the aggregate invoicing team and must ensure this function within the finance team operates effectively. The role reports directly to the Financial Controller.

Role Responsibility

Accountabilities

  • Project Accounting - Integrity of costs and accuracy & transaction processing
  • Financial control, Governance, segregation of duties & process flows
  • Maintenance of sound financial controls, in line with JV guidelines, ensuring that all applicable requirements can be met at all times
  • General administration of finance information and data, ensuring records are maintained for an adequate period, kept securely and sufficient information is kept to meet group requirements.
  • Material processing function operates effectively
  • Automation process is executed on the project
  • Subcontract Management (payments and liabilities only)
  • Payments within the finance system
  • Interaction with buying, site and Finance Business partners.

General Duties

  • Monthly PMU reporting on material invoices and subcontractors
  • Management of the subcontract payment process, communicating with the commercial team regarding payments and liabilities and ensuring all VAT paperwork is raised/received
  • Responsible for ensuring that there are adequate controls over the aggregate invoicing process.
  • As part of the role’s line management responsibility for the team, ensure that the team are reviewing the accounts inbox regularly, the teams registers are maintained daily, supplier reconciliations are being completed and that accurate accruals are entered at the month end.
  • Manage and develop staff
  • Ensure any prepayments are correctly journaled at the month end
  • Ensure all urgent payments/utilities are efficiently managed by the team
  • Create payment runs within the finance system from the information submitted from the material and plant teams, compare this to supplier reconciliations and prepare the download ready for Lloyds input
  • Look to develop Robotics as appropriate

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • 5 years PQE Accountant with a recognised professional body (eg ICAEW, ACCA or CIMA) or qualified by experience 10 years plus.
  • Experience in a project based finance team within the construction, infrastructure or similar industry
  • Excel, IT & Communication Skills
  • Competent in retrieving and understanding data from the chosen timesheet system
  • Good attention to detail
  • Takes ownership of output
  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team
  • Self-confident

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Oracle E1 accounting system
  • Previous experience managing a team

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
