Plant Inspector / Manager

Job Introduction

This role is required to support Area Central on the management of Plant Hire Equipment Inspections and pre-Delivery inspections to all Area Central shafts This role will also support the Plant Manager and Snr. Works Superintendent on reducing the risk of any Health & safety issues, Malfunctions, lost or damaged to hired in Plant Equipment. Safety to All operators on sites.

 

This is a New role which require full familiarisation on all aspects of plant equipment from Excavators to Dumper trucks, forklifts, powered access MEWPS, and Floor saws, Pressure washers etc.

Role Responsibility

Accountable for:  Plant Inspections

  •  Management of plant Inspections in accordance with SCS Standards, Policies and Procedures

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Area Central Shafts, / General Foreman, Plant Manager / of plant hire and equipment to suit the needs and demand of the project and to ensure continuity of the works in accordance with SCS Health & safety procedures
  • All plant and equipment must be adequately inspected as requirement by Legislation. Manufacturer’s
  • Instructions and the SCS management system. Daily basic inspection, Periodic inspection, Thorough Examination,
  • Check certification of conformity, and Manufacturers handbooks with Plant Equipment
  • Significant hazards/risks are identified to full risk assessment
  • Sound and current knowledge of heavy plant machinery maintenance, PUWER/LOLER regulations
  • Responsible for identifying any faults or damage to equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Maintaining positive relationships with all stakeholders involved
  • Keeping accurate records of all plant Inspections recorded on PDI using the SCS Plant Documentation
  •  Best practise ideas visionary in Plant Solutions
  • Produce accurate and logical Check sheets to demonstrate best Practise
  • Completion of all Documentations with reference to Plant Assessments
  • Work with General Foremen, and shaft teams, and Plant Hire companies with any plant issues  
  • Complete quarterly supply chain performance reviews for and plant suppliers

Work efficiently and professionally during periods of pressure

The Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate will possess:

- Sound and current knowledge of heavy plant machinery maintenance, PUWER/LOLER regulations

  • Previous experience as a Plant Manager /Inspector

  • Excellent communicator and influencer with the ability to build effective relationships with staff and supply chain 

Desirable: 

  • Previous experience working in a similar environment with Plant Hire companies 

  • Maintaining equipment managed by the project 

  • Experience of working on infrastructure projects 

In addition to the above discipline role, the S2 SCL Tunnel Engineer must carry out their duties in accordance with the SCS JV Core Values:

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services 

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts which include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). The combined value of the contracts is around £1.8billion with the works due for completion in 2025.  Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
