MEP Senior Commercial Lead
Job Introduction
HS2 Main Works Civils Contract [MWCC], Section S1 and S2, Shafts and Headhouse Delivery Unit [SHDU], Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing [MEP] Commercial Lead reporting to the SHDU Commercial Lead. Provide commercial leadership, strategy and direction for the delivery of the MEP for the HS2 MWCC S1 and S2 Stage 5 design and build as part of the overall shaft and headhouses delivery.
Role Responsibility
As MEP commercial lead you will be working very closely with the MEP Delivery Lead and the wider commercial and delivery teams. You will have overall responsibility of all aspects of commercial aspects and management associated with the delivery of the MEP across all 11 Assets on the MWCC, including the commercial administration of the MWCC requirements – design and build (including testing, commissioning, assurance and handover of the MEP across the project).
For the MEP aspects of the project, you will provide commercial support and advice to the Asset Teams on Contractual and Commercial matters and seek support as and when required. You will work as part of the wider Commercial Team (SHDU and MWCC) and support the delivery of the overall SHDU objectives.
Ensure good communication at all times and ensure compliance with SCS policies and procedures.
This position will hold overall commercial responsibility for the MEP aspects of the project delivery, leading the commercial team while working closely with the Asset Leads and Project Leadership Team to ensure successful financial and contractual delivery throughout the full project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial management of all MEP packages (closely interfacing with the rest of the delivery teams including the AFO team)
- Manage and develop the project commercial team and ensure succession planning
- Oversee cost reporting, forecasting and commercial performance including reference back to programme and quantification of delivery
- Manage procurement strategy and subcontract administration for MEP
- Lead change control, variations and commercial negotiations with MEP subcontractors and support the Asset commercial leads with upstream change management and forecast reporting.
- Ensure contractual compliance and effective risk management (including providing full transparency around forecasting and current Assumptions and Exclusions associated with the remaining works)
- Maintain strong Customer and stakeholder relationships
- Support successful project delivery through to final account for MEP subcontractors
The Ideal Candidate
- Proven experience of operating as a Senior Commercial Manager (or Commercial Manager) on a large infrastructure project (preferably within the rail sector)
- Strong track record delivering major MEP projects and subcontract management
- Previous experience working for Tier 1 contractors or leading MEP contractors
- Strong contractual, financial and leadership capability
- Risk management, commercial P&L reporting experience
- Partnering and Strategic mindset
- Relevant experience in managing contracts, from strategic negotiation to operation, ideally within a large-scale infrastructure environment
- Experience in successfully building and leading multi-disciplinary teams

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
