MEP Interface Manager
Job Introduction
Embedded within the MEP team, the MEP interface manager reports to the Senior MEP Design Manager. The Interface Manager is the primary point of contact for any interface with Others and leads the Interface & Integration within the MEP design for shafts and headhouses for Hs2 Main Works.
The MEP Interface Manager shall ensure that design co-ordination between relevant parties is correctly recorded, managed and resolved throughout the project lifecycle and the relevant interface documentation is maintained through accurate records in accordance with an Interface Management Plan. The Interface Manager will engage and work with the SCS core interface team.
Role Responsibility
- Responsible for administering the works in accordance with the Project Interface Management Plan and processes;
- Responsible for creating and maintaining the Interface Management Tools;
- Responsible for managing the interface and integration activities with intra and inter-interfaces:
- Intra-interfaces are interfaces within the SCS S1 and S2 contract, e.g. MEP to Civil teams.
- Inter-interfaces are parties external to SCS but within HS2 project, e.g. the Rail Systems Contract.
- Responsible for monitoring the progress of interface resolution;
- Perform cross-discipline MEP design reviews, as required, ensuring any gaps, amendments, changes or other are captured and properly followed up in the interface documentation;
- Responsible for organising interface meetings with Others;
- Responsible for supporting others within the team in regard to interfacing with Others;
- Responsible for agreeing and signing off Interface Control Documents (ICD) / Interface Requirements Specifications (IRS) / Detailed Interface Requirements (DIR) on behalf of the MEP Main works team with the Consultant (Design House – a joint venture of Arup, Typsa and Strabag);
- Responsible for ensuring any assumption and departures required as part of the intra and inter-intefaces are formally raised and approved by HS2.
- To manage instructed change by HS2 where intra and inter-interfaces are impacted.
- Work with the core SCS interface management team to establish and maintain sound communication links with the Civil, Architectural SCS teams and to third party interfaces, where required (e.g. Network Rail);
- Identifying and reporting interface related risks as necessary;
- Management of an interface register and interface action tracker;
- Developing and supporting the MEP design managers with the VVM (verification and validation matrices) process; post design stage, this activity will continue through the construction to handover phases;
- Updating and regular issuing of Interface Progress Reporting. This will be used to monitor the progress of Interface resolution through the tracking of interface documentation and major issues.
- Co-ordinate design between inter and intra-interfaces;
- Managing the MEP Design Interface process;
- Monitor accurately the outflow and inflow of all MEP design documents with inter and intra-interfaces;
- Managing all external design interfaces and coordinating the MEP components with inter and intra-interfaces;
- Assisting the Senior MEP Design manager in all aspects related to MEP Design;
- Track the progress of design documentation in relation to the interfacing process and facilitate regular reviews;
- Develop and adhere to a MEP Interface Management Plan;
- Ensure that relevant design management plans and assurance plans are adhered to, within area of responsibility;
- Identify value engineering opportunities and cost saving initiatives through the interfacing Process with Others;
- Ensure that the team personnel receive or have access to copies of the relevant Interfacing Documents as well as to ensure everyone is kept informed of relevant developments and issues;
- Internal liaison with the Construction Team, QA team and Cost Control.
The Ideal Candidate
Required
- Degree level, or equivalent HND and experience, in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering (or related subject)
- Experience working for a contractor on a major infrastructure project
- Middle management experience within MEP on large construction contracts
- Proactive in resolving problems and project result oriented
- Excellent scheduling, organizing and progress control. Ability to prioritise work in a high-pressure environment
- Enthusiastic team player, excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience across LUL, Network Rail, Crossrail
- Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, SharePoint).
- Relevant CSCS Card
- Strong understanding of Engineering Principles and CDM Regulations
Desirable
- On site experience of the delivery of MEP systems
- Extensive technical knowledge of construction techniques and best practices.
- Training in Health & Safety and Environmental management
