Lead Store Person (Plant Team)

Role

SCS, a joint venture between Strabag, Costain, and Skanska has been contracted to construct seven tunnels, ranging in ID from 6.2m to 8.8m and length from 850m to 7,700m. Tunnels are being constructed between Euston and West Ruislip. The tunnelling phase of the project is about to commence and due to be complete in 2025. The project is split into three sections, West, Central and East. The role on offer is within the central section, based in Willesden / North Action.

The lead store person manages the storage and safekeeping of plant equipment M&E parts and consumables in storerooms and outdoor storage areas. Using both paper based and digital parts management software they receive parts from suppliers, check the parts for damage and store it appropriately. They track the movement of parts and are responsible for all data relating to the receiving and issuing of parts. They are also responsible for the establishment and ongoing management of the storage areas (indoor and outdoor).

Role Responsibility

  • Receiving, storing, issuing and logging parts that come in and out of storage areas. Storing of parts on shelves and in assigned areas of the storage yard.
  • Comparing parts received against orders and inspecting parts for damage. Liaising with suppliers to organize returns. Ensuring delivery dockets are passed on to the appropriate SCS personnel.
  • Establishment of the parts storage areas, including collaboration with the maintenance and operations team on the layout and required storage containers and other infrastructure (e.g. shelves etc).
  • Organising and assisting with signage and labelling of the storage areas.
  • Maintaining control of the parts in the storage areas by developing and enforcing processes & security to control part removal.
  • Loading and unloading trailers using a forklift, moving heavy loads with a forklift within the storage yard.
  • Completing regular stocktakes to ensure correct inventory levels are maintained and the parts management database accurately reflects stock quantities.
  • Liaising with other team members, e.g. maintenance superintendents and engineers, to ensure stock levels are adequate to suit demand.
  • If required, lead other store persons. Assign tasks, follow up on issues, ensure all stores related processes & procedures are followed.
  • General day to day yard maintenance duties in the store area.
  • Ensure the yard and stores area is kept safe, tidy, and secure.
  • Liaise with planning and site management on parts requirements for the coming days such that parts packs can be prepared for up and coming work.
  • Always adhere to the health and safety procedures. Including completion of risk assessment method statements, safety observations etc.
  • Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the company's operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implemented on the project.

The Ideal Candidate

Required qualifications, skills, behaviours and attributes

  • Must have significant previous experience as lead store person.
  • Must have experience with parts associated with mechanical equipment, preferably tunnelling and construction plant such as TBMs, conveyors, water treatment plants and mobile plant (e.g. excavators and concrete pumps).
  • Must be comfortable with the use of computers and software (such  as parts management software, email and MS word) as well as using barcode scanners to log part movements.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must be able to work alone and with other team members, being able to prioritize, organise and manage tasks.
  • Comfortable working outside in all elements of weather.
  • Good observational skills with a good eye for detail.
  • Must be a competent forklift driver, with a valid forklift license. Must have a full driver’s license.

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
