Laboratory Manager

Role Responsibility

  • Knowledge of full range of soils/aggregates and concrete laboratory including ins itu  tests in a construction environment
  • Sample management and management of subcontract testing when required
  • Manage team of senior technicians and technicians to ensure works requirements are met
  • Programme all resources to meet client’s needs and liaise with client representatives on testing requirements
  • Training and career development of staff when required
  • Manage staff recruitment and discipline when required including their training and development.
  • Keep accurate and legible records of all works undertaken including administrative records
  • Produce commercial records and reports if required 
  • Manage relevant procurement
  • Maintain documented QA/QC systems include UKAS including UKA S visits.
  • Full knowledge of published technical specifications and standards
  • Identify and manage risk in all work activities
  • Represent laboratory at client / technical meetings if needed
  • Flexibility in location to suit operational needs
  • Equipment calibration management where required and carry out Technical audits as required
  • Overall responsibility for health and safety of laboratory operations
  • Flexibility in location to suit operational needs

The Ideal Candidate

  • HND /HNC / NVQ in a relevant subject beneficial.
  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or Materials or Earthworks is desirable 
  • Relevant Testing experience in Senior role
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbally
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Reliable with excellent timekeeping
  • Willingness to work overtime which may also include weekend and/or night working
  • Full UK Driving License
  • Preferably an industry accredited safety training eg. CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme)

About the Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
