Head of Technical Assurance
Job Introduction
About the role:
You will be the custodian of the technical assurance process for the programme, providing guidance to the delivery teams to deliver HS2’s SAP (L3) certification, essential evidence, and supporting deliverables at the necessary level of quality to satisfy the contract.
Reporting into the Head of Assurance, Quality and Compliance you will lead an expert team of engineers providing the necessary direction to them so that they can make their own independent assessment on the works supporting the programme to deliver and report on the delivery of assurance progressively.
You will also ensure that data is prepared and reported for the programme’s Directors and client lead audits and internal audits.
You will be involved with the delivery of circa 100 HS2 assets packaged throughout the lifecycles of Design, Construction, and Handover.
You will develop and delivery training to programme staff in the field of Technical Assurance.
You will enthusiastically promote innovation and actively support the team to continuously improve.
Role Responsibility

- Provide strategic direction and guidance to the Senior Leadership Team members in the field of Technical assurance.
- Manage relationship with Client team in the field of Technical Assurance
- Provide support the Head of Assurance, Quality and Compliance to deliver the programme’s Engineering, Design, and Assurance Functions
The Ideal Candidate
- Professional qualification - Degree or equivalent in civil engineering or an appropriate professional qualification.
- Professional in Systems Thinking, Systems Engineering, and in taking a Systems Based Approach
- Prior experience in civil engineering projects of similar nature.
- Chartered member of INCOSE, MCQI, IRCA or equivalent body would be advantageous.
- Thorough knowledge of the requirements and practical experience of developing, implementing and improving quality management systems in accordance with ISO 9001:2015.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Ability to build relationships with all levels of seniority and external stakeholders.
- Extensive internal and external auditing experience, being an Internal Register of Certified Auditors (IRCA) auditor is preferred.
- Relevant CSCS Card.
- Knowledge of other management systems (ISO 14001:2015, ISO 27001:2013, OHSAS 18001:2007, ISO 44001:2017 etc.) is desired.
- Previous experience of managing systems, processes, project plans and deliverables lists on infrastructure projects.
- Understanding of the application and delivery of Assurance.
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary/complex project environment.
- Experienced in the use of spreadsheets/databases to manage records and information.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Credible in building relationships with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrable ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to work flexibly.
