GIS Technician

Job Introduction

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a project which will expose the candidate to a wide range of systems, software, skills, expertise and insight. The GIS Technician is a member of the GIS Team which sits within the BIM Team at SCS Railways. The candidate would be responsible for supporting the ‘Tunnels and Routeway’ and ‘Shafts and Headhouses’ Delivery Units with their GIS requests, alongside developing cutting edge GIS solutions for the wider project. This role would be ideal for a professional with GIS skills in the ESRI suite of software, who also has a working knowledge of using ETL tools such as Safe FME for managing efficient workflows and is looking to produce creative GIS solutions.

Role Responsibility

Tasks:

  • Produce creative and innovative GIS solutions using the latest set of tools available within the ESRI suite, and self-developed custom solutions to specific requests
  • Integration of 3D BIM models into GIS - data processing and visualisation
  • Develop and maintain bespoke GIS interfaces and data to provide user access to complex datasets
  • Create mobile GIS applications using packages such as Survey123 to assist in the management of field data collection and our digital permitting systems
  • Adhere to and seek efficient workflows using automations and self-developed processes
  • Generate GIS deliverables following client specifications
  • Consistently aim to develop new skills using the plethora of resources available within SCS and the accessibility of GIS specific training
  • Use of coding skills to develop and maintain GIS applications
  • CAD to GIS conversions
  • Collaborate with the Survey Team to maintain up to date drone imagery in GIS
  • Respond to ad-hoc GIS requests from wider project members and/or stakeholders
  • Utilise ETL tools such as FME to promote automated processes
  • Use of APIs to integrate data sources
  • Use flair and experience to bring new and exciting resolutions for data integration, analysis and visualization


The Ideal Candidate

Knowledge & Expertise:

  • ESRI Suite – ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, Experience Builder, Dashboards, Field Apps – Survey123/FieldMaps, Arcade
  • Safe FME
  • Arcade/Python/JavaScript
  • SQL
  • API integration
  • CAD – Bentley Open Buildings Designer/Autodesk
  • Appreciation of coordinate systems and conversion between them
  • Experience working with Ordnance Survey datasets

About the Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
