Field Engineer

Job Introduction

To manage the RFI, FCD, and NCR processes in one of three areas of the project (East, Central, or West). Liaise with the Area East Engineering Managers in compliance with the Act, Works Information, and any Third-Party Agreements. Contribute to achieving a safe system of work and to assuring third parties that impacts from construction works are as predicted and are acceptable. Assist in initiating contingency measures where necessary.

Role Responsibility

  • Mange the RFI, FCD, and NCR processes, ensuring that documents are appropriately routed, answered, and closed out within the specified timeframes.
  • Produce weekly performance metrics as a dashboard for RFIs, FCDs, and NCRs, including a clear list of those technical requests open, and those overdue
  • Produce and implement a recovery plan for any slippage
  • For NCRs liaise closely with the EMs, Quality Team, and the Delivery Teams for resolution
  • Use both the Zutec and Document Control tools available to manage these processes
  • Continuously aim to improve, and suggest ways to improve, implementation of the processes
  • Be thoroughly familiar with all IFC drawings and specifications
  • Contribute to reviewing WPPs, Task Briefing Sheets, RAs, MSs, ITPs etc
  • Contribute to reviewing Red Line data for accuracy, as a prelude to as-built model production
  • Attend review meetings with the Design House and Engineering Managers
  • Be fully familiar with all buildings, bridges, tunnels, other structures, anomalies, or assets in the vicinity of the TBM and other construction works.
  • Provide information and clarifications to external parties, other MWCC contracts, other works package contractors and liaison with third parties and communities, as appropriate
  • Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes, and statutory requirements as they affect the company's operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implemented on the project

The Ideal Candidate

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or relevant scientific subject.
  • Demonstrable previous experience of engineering processes on a major project of similar nature.
  • At least 3 years previous experience in a similar role
  • Relevant CSCS Card.
  • Adaptable and decisive, good self-management skills.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience working in track environment (NR/LU).
  • PTS Card.

About the Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services.

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts which include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). The combined value of the contracts is around £1.8billion with the works due for completion in 2025.  Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
