Engineering Manager (Ground Movements)

Job Introduction

Overall responsibility for the delivery of 3rd party Settlement Reports as part of the Settlement Deed process, in compliance with the Act and Works Information. Assuring third parties that impact of construction is; predicted, acceptable, managed and mitigated where required. Manage the Routewide Engineering inputs into the provision of Settlement Deeds (specifically Settlement reports) covering potentially thousands of qualifying properties. Reporting to the Head of Asset Protection.

Role Responsibility

  • Management of the Routewide DH GMA Building and Heritage team resource, ensuring sufficient resource available for each of the three delivery areas, and that the Settlement Reports delivered are accurate and timely.
  • Work closely with the teams identified above to ensure settlement reports (as identified) are programmed and delivered in-line with the critical construction programme(s), as failure to adhere to the defined process, risk non-compliance with the Act and could delay construction works (i.e. TBMs moving into the zone of influence).
  • Differentiate and manage clearly the following settlement report categories:
    1. Long form >DC2 (Burland Damage Classification)
    2. Short form
    3. Settlement Report (outside qualifying zone) i.e. not accompanied by Deed.
  • Liaise directly with >DC2 appointed owners Engineers (appointed by HS2) to ensure any questions raised are answered appropriately.
  • Ensure inclusion of key mitigation and I&M and information as appropriate following close coordination with Area specific Asset protection teams.

Being a member of the Engineering Management team provides opportunity to contribute into other aspects of this discipline and provide direction advice and support to the design and construction teams as appropriate. The Engineering Manager (Settlement Deeds) maintains a position that is independent to the delivery team, in order that they can provide independent judgment and intervene if necessary to stop works in the case of significant change to construction methodology, sequencing, temporary works or impact on permanent works or structural movements.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineer or other construction related subject
  • Appropriate experience in management on the provision of technical reports on major Civil Engineering project or a similar scope/nature, ideally relating to Ground Movement and/or impacts of construction on third parties.
  • Relevant CSCS Card.

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
