EDI Manager

Job Introduction

SCS Railways are seeking an experienced and driven Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Manager to lead and deliver our EDI strategy across a major infrastructure joint venture in London. 

About the role:

The role reports to our Head of Culture and Transformation and will work as part of the People and Communications team. This is an exciting role with responsibility for shaping an inclusive culture across three parent organisations, ensuring alignment while influencing at all levels of the business. 

The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with the credibility and confidence to build strong relationships, challenge constructively, and drive meaningful change in a complex and fast-paced environment. This is an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact on one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects. 


Flexible working:

The role will be office based a minimum of 3 days a week with offices in Euston and Willesden Junction. We encourage you to ask for additional flexibility you may need.

Role Responsibility

  • Be a visible, influential and credible EDI leader, working closely with the Senior Management Team, People Director and wider project teams to build engagement, trust and support for the EDI strategy across the joint venture.
  • Lead the implementation and continuous development of the project’s EDI Strategy, ensuring alignment with client requirements and organisational priorities. Monitor progress through data analysis, evaluate impact and present clear, insightful updates and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships across the three parent organisations, acting as a confident communicator and trusted advisor who can engage, influence and challenge stakeholders at all levels within a complex and fast-paced environment.
  • Work closely with the Head of Culture and Transformation to listen to employee experiences, identifying barriers and driving initiatives that foster belonging, awareness and cultural change across SCS JV and its supply chain.
  • Appoint and work closely with the EDI Executive Sponsor on the board, rotating the position annually and creating meaningful opportunities for senior leaders to actively champion and support EDI initiatives across the project.
  • Deliver high performance against HS2 works information requirements, including bi-annual reporting obligations, maintaining Disability Confident Level 3 status and ensuring compliance with all relevant EDI commitments.
  • Manage and influence supply chain EDI performance, developing strategic partnerships to support workforce diversity objectives and embed inclusive behaviours and practices throughout the wider project community.
  • Design, develop and deliver engaging EDI training, workshops and awareness sessions that build understanding, encourage inclusive behaviours and strengthen leadership capability across the workforce. Lead and support the continued success of our EDI Champions network. 
  • Work collaboratively across functions to identify opportunities to embed EDI principles into wider people, operational and business activities, ensuring inclusion is integrated into day-to-day decision making and culture.
  • Partner closely with the recruitment team to monitor workforce diversity data and ensure fair, inclusive and equitable recruitment and selection practices are embedded across all hiring processes.
  • Develop, review and embed EDI policies, procedures and guidance in line with the Equality Act 2010, HS2 requirements and industry best practice, ensuring compliance while driving continuous improvement.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential:

  • Demonstrable understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion with the ability to explain specific benefits to a wide range of audiences (different levels of seniority, as well as to people with different perspectives). 
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the confidence to work independently while also collaborating effectively as part of a wider People and Communications team.
  • Strategic and creative thinker, able to apply an inclusion lens to existing processes, policies and ways of working, identifying opportunities to drive continuous improvement and meaningful cultural change.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and deliver results within a fast-moving and dynamic environment.
  • Able to influence and persuade key stakeholders across a spectrum of seniority levels, perspectives, or backgrounds. Experience of coordinating multiple stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives, for example leading staff networks.
  • Able to develop, deliver and evaluate diversity and inclusion training in multiple formats to suit a range of different audiences. 

Desired experience: 

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an EDI role with a high level of responsibility 
  • Creating and implementing an EDI Strategy in an office and operational environment.
  • Influencing key stakeholders, such a senior leaders or supply chain, to gain support for the EDI strategy.  
  • Knowledgeable about the HS2 project and client EDI aspirations. 
  • Ability to analyse and present data to evaluate initiatives and make informed decisions. 

About the Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.

You’ll be a welcomed member of the wider team, with opportunities to take on additional responsibility, join our EDI Champions program or support the local community (e.g. as a STEM ambassador).

It is an SCSJV requirement that all employees, Design House,  and Supply Chains must implement and comply with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System with guidance for use”, OHSAS 18001:2017  Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems and ISO/IEC 27001:2013 Information Security Management System, Policies, Plans, Procedures and Processes, and statutory requirements as they affect the Joint Venture ‘s operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are effectively implemented on the project. Develop a culture of safety on the project through the absolute commitment to the Zero Accidents target and ethos, and develops a wider awareness of quality, environmental issues and demonstrates commitment to achieve continual improvement and Zero tolerance.
