Communications Officer

Job Introduction

With 22 London sites on Europe’s largest infrastructure project, we manage a huge amount of external relations activity. This role reports into the External Relations Manager and will plan and execute our external activity, including public affairs briefings, social media, events, press releases and crisis management. Working with the External Relations Manager and wider team, this role will develop relationships across the project to help us celebrate our biggest milestones and work to enhance our reputation.

Role Responsibility

  • Work with site teams to identify opportunities for external stories
  • Liaise with key strategic Government, media and industry stakeholders
  • Develop briefings on key issues and opportunities for senior managers and HS2
  • Curate and manage social media posts for SCS and our supply chain
  • Draft and review press releases and external stories
  • Support the Visits and Event Manager on key events, including briefing senior attendees on lines to take
  • Work closely with the Consents and Engagement team on community-related and reputational matters
  • Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the company's operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implemented on the project.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • A Government Relations background and experience working in a political environment
  • Proven social media skills, especially LinkedIn
  • Excellent writing ability
  • Ability to engage with, and influence, colleagues at all levels across a geographically diverse area
  • Ability to create and edit content for presentations and briefing packs

Desirable

  • An understanding of the construction or transport industries
  • Experience of working on award submissions
  • Good presentation skills

 

About the Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts which include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). The combined value of the contracts is around £1.8billion with the works due for completion in 2025.  Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
