IT Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Job Introduction

The SCSJV IT Team is responsible for managing cloud-based services and on-site facilities for about around 2000 users, across 20 locations between Euston and West Ruislip.

The majority of our services are SaaS by Construction related solution providers, and our effort is towards ensuring business requirements and service levels are met. But we have also Azure hosted and third-party managed applications which requires care and attention to meet our service level business expectation.

As part of the effort for managing cloud infrastructure, and some minor on-prem, the IT team is looking for a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to increase their capacity and expertise.

Role Responsibility

  • Reporting directly to the Head of IT Operations, the Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for administering internal Azure services.
  • Instrumental in the installation and upkeep of operating systems, network or application software in the SCS Azure environment.
  • Sitting on the Technical Design Authority, the Cloud Infrastructure engineer will have a critical role in reviewing technical designs for system implementations, integrations and proposed changes to systems.
  • Provide technical guidance or support for the troubleshooting of systems and to maintain a detailed understanding of the implemented technology used in SCS Railways.
  • liaise with the rest of the IT Team to ensure their capability to resolve issues and avoid future problems and facilitating the development of new documentation and insights.
  • Mentor / develop IT colleagues in system operation and or maintenance of internal cloud systems
  • Assist in the technical implementation of new technology solutions and drawing on the expertise of IT colleagues in respect of the user liaison and rollout, always working towards a co-ordinated approach to technical project execution. Ensure appropriate liaison and/or consultation has been undertaken with both colleagues and external suppliers or consultants to ensure the success of the project
  • Maintains knowledge of industry trends, new technologies and considers how these might be applicable to SCS Railways.
  • Work closely with our partners to control the IT services to ensure optimal operational status (job scheduling, backup, routine maintenance, patching, upgrades, resource monitoring).

The Ideal Candidate

  • 3+ years of experience implementing and supporting services in Azure
  • High-level of system administration experience critical
  • Organised, meticulous and methodical - Process Orientated
  • Microsoft AZ-204 Azure Developer Associate
  • Strong knowledge and experience with information technology platforms: Office 365, Azure, Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative and within a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Ability to remain calm and adaptable under pressure and manage workload and
    time in a fast paced, quick changing environment
  • Experience of Administration through automation using Powershell
  • Ability to handle basic Microsoft SQL administration / maintenance tasks

Minimum:

  • Certification: Microsoft AZ-900 Azure Fundamentals
  • Certification: Microsoft AZ-104 Azure Administrator Associate

Desirable:

  • Familiar in ITIL service management usage or equivalent operational framework
  • Familiar with Cyber and Information Security standards and requirements (EU and UK).

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts which include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
