Business Continuity Manager

Job Introduction

The role is help manage Business Continuity issues and support the Business Continuity function on the Main Works Contract.

Reporting into the Business Continuity director you will be part of a new function designed to help improve the organisational resilience of SCS railways ensuring we can minimise disruption, maintain operability and  help prevent disaster. NB: This is a cross organisational role, covering all operations/functions of the business and is not IT/cyber resilience.

You will have an understanding of ISO management systems and will be expected to help implement ISO 22301 as a minimum. You will also contribute to BC strategy and horizon scanning.

Role Responsibility

  • Creation, implementation and ongoing maintenance of ISO 22301
  • Create, implement and periodically review Business Continuity documents
  • Advising on the approach to Business Continuity, Organisational Resilience and Disaster Recovery
  • Run desktop scenarios.
  • Design, plan and deliver Business Continuity exercises (Desktop and simulation)
  • Run pre-mortem scenarios for critical/catastrophic risks
  • Create Business Continuity playbooks and strategies for identified risks, ensuring they are appropriate at all times.
  • Run reports on risk databases and risk leading indicators.
  • Own the Business Continuity Intranet page.
  • Design and implement a periodic horizon scanning risk approach and keep up-to-date with external risk benchmarks and new trends in risk management.
  • Maintain a deep knowledge of parent company, government, local authority, HSE, industry body (e.g. Construction Leadership Council. Build UK) current and upcoming requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Researching Business Continuity best practices, winning approval to transfer into SCS where applicable.
  • Contribute to any associated Subject Matter expert Steering Groups as identified.
  • Reviewing key learning assisting and/ or manage the investigation of reported Business Continuity incidents (eg. COVID-19 cases)
  • Manage a programme of business continuity assurance.
  • Forming strong relationships with the Client and other stakeholders.
  • Maintaining own level of knowledge and competency in relations to Business Continuity / Risk management and responsibilities including appropriate qualifications and professional membership
  • Represent the company externally, speaking at industry leading events to share best practice and to create a strong SHWE network across other industries.
  • Any other managerial duties as deemed necessary by the Business Continuity Director

The Ideal Candidate

Essential:

  • An appropriate professional membership (E.g. IOSH, IRSM, BCI)
  • Appropriate professional qualifications (E.g. Risk/Business Continuity/H&S)
  • The ability to thrive in pressure situations.
  • The ability to empathise and communicate with all people, regardless of their background or circumstances.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and time management skills
  • A passion of Safety, Health and Environment
  • Be able to work on own initiative when required.
  • Be computer literate.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.

Desired:

  • 5 years of SHE and/or Business Continuity related experience.
  • Project Management
  • Pandemic or Disaster Planning
  • Emergency Response Planning
  • Workforce Impact / Continuity Planning

About the Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts which include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). The combined value of the contracts is around £1.8billion with the works due for completion in 2025.  Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
