Job description

The project requires CDM technicians to join the SCS delivery team and will be required to assist the Tunnel team and Mechanical team to progress planning and delivery of the tunnel constructions.

Geographically there are two tunnel locations: Atlas Road Logistics Tunnel, Euston tunnels. The work will cover these tunnels and interfaces with Atlas Road site, Old Oak Common station and Euston station.

Main elements of the construction process consist of; Launching Structures for TBM and Gantries, Tunnel Segments, Temporary Services, Ventilations, Conveyors, Plant setup.

Working with the SCS delivery team and CAD team, reporting to both the delivery team managers (Tunnel and Mechanical) and CAD manager.

Liaising directly with the project site team, the CAD technicians will be responsible for producing 2D drawings and 3D models, as well as providing design coordination and information capture through BIM processes by collaborating with BIM team.

The role will focus on construction sequencing, space proofing, setting out points, therefore, previous experience from working on live construction railway projects is ideal.

The candidate will be ideally an advanced user of Bentley AECOsim/MicroStation and ProjectWise, but training can be provided to the right candidate as long as they can demonstrate previous experience with other CAD and modelling packages (i.e. Revit).

Role Responsibility

 

The required CAD Technician will be reporting to the CAD Team Leader and their main deliverables will include:

  • Working within a team, the fundamental requirement of this role is to produce CAD design deliverables, including 3D models, technical drawings and sketches for projects across various sectors within the tunnel and mechanical department
  • Prepare preliminary and detailed designs in 2D/3D for mechanical, civil and structural, temporary and permanent works as requested by Managers or Lead Engineers
  • Ability to use a variety of software is preferable, including but not limited to Bentley AECOsim Openbuilding Designer, Microstation, AutoCAD
  • Work within a Common Data Environment (ProjectWise)
  • Ensure that draughting activities are executed within budget and schedule, while maintaining technical integrity
  • Ensure that work is carried out with relevant codes, standards and procedures
  • Maintain and develop awareness of current relevant codes and standards
  • Implement company, and where applicable client/ project policies and procedures
  • Effectively communicate with other disciplines to ensure that interfaces are clearly defined and correctly designed
  • Liaise with other departments, project personnel, sub-contractors, clients etc.

The Ideal Candidate

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience working as a BIM technician in tunnelling or civil project
  • Experience working in railway projects is ideal
  • Must be competent in design & detailing of structures, foundations, below ground infrastructure, including drainage, cable ducting, etc. steel and concrete
  • Good understanding of construction and civil engineering methodologies and sequencing
  • Qualified to City & Guilds or HNC/HND level and/or educated to degree level
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a team environment
  • Experience of working in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills
  • Strong skills in data analysis
  • Ability to present key messages in an engaging manner
  • Experience of leading within a complex infrastructure environment

Highly organised and able to handle many ongoing priorities without impact on outputs

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
