BIM Manager

Job Introduction

Overall accountability for the delivery of all the Building Information Modelling (BIM) requirements for the allocated delivery Area.

The BIM team have a large volume of work to produce and assure for stage 5 & 6 with the fundamental aspects of coordination to facilitate clash detection activities and buildability assurances with the delivery team and this role is vital to support the BIM Lead in managing SCS requirements with the supply chain and conducting reviews of submissions whilst supporting multi disciplines upon the project.

There is also key project software’s that need to be maintained to continue the flow of information, i.e. Projectwise, Assetwise, EMT-AIMS and PowerBi reports.

Role Responsibility

  • Supporting the BIM Lead in implementing standards methods & procedures (SM&Ps) plus automated Data pipelines that fulfil the Employer’s Information Requirements.
  • Assist the EDU BIM Lead with managing interfaces with other functional teams including, but not limited to estimation, planning, construction execution and close out.
  • Facilitating and managing the BIM information exchange processes among SCS project team members, HS2, subcontractors and suppliers, including the efficient exchange of information through the CDE.
  • Developing, Auditing, Sharing and Managing the Project Information Model and Asset Information Model.
  • Working with the EDU BIM Lead to develop discipline specific supply chain works information guidance utilising the relevant Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) schema as per HS2 IFC Specification.
  • Working with the BIM Lead to develop information workflows to migrate UniClass data structures to IFC for information exchanges between project members and Client delivery.
  • Supporting the BIM Lead in guiding the BIM EDU team, including briefing and guidance to the BIM team and wider project team including subcontractors, suppliers and 3rd parties on the SCS BIM approach, BEP, standard methods & procedures (SM&Ps) and relevant software.
  • Assist the BIM Lead in upskilling the Supply Chain in software programmes as well as the SM&Ps to ensure the supply chain have the necessary knowledge to deliver the Contractor’s Information Requirements and allow information exchange within the CDE.
  • Guiding and developing the BIM team in terms of skills & competencies as well as encouraging behaviours / cultures supporting collaboration
  • Regular liaison with the HS2 Information Team and other MWCC and 3rd Parties to ensure sharing of best practices, innovation and drive continuous improvements.
  • Interface with the Design House BIM Team to ensure the timely delivery of BIM Model assurance requirements and close out the Detail Design stage 4 project lifecycle.
  • Liaising with other SCS lot BIM teams as well as other Phase One MWCC packages to ensure sharing of best practice, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Working with the EDU BIM Lead to establish a Data first principle across the Delivery Unit.
  • Establishing and maintaining an integrated data reporting approach to drive BIM single source methodology.
  • Communicating and presenting BIM relevant topics and the SCS BIM approach to HS2 and stakeholders in support of the interface manager.
  • Ensure that the GIS Execution Plan is implemented by SCS JV and its subcontractors/supply chain where required.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of 3D GIS and manage data correctly and efficiently – must ensure that the most up-to-date versions of data are shown on maps / issued at any given time.
  • Working closely with the different GIS end users, engineers and project teams to identify problems and provide input, advice and implementation as appropriate of GIS-based solutions.
  • Working closely with and supporting GIS technicians and BIM coordinators to maximise value from their outputs and investigate innovative ways to apply geospatial solutions with data coming from different sources.
  • Capturing and maintaining a register of GIS data usage around the project and seeking opportunities to deploy GIS wherever could be beneficial.
  • Driving innovation, EDI and the upskilling of the BIM and project team to deliver a next generation BIM approach and continuous improvement.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Degree or equivalent in civil engineering or an appropriate professional qualification
  • Prior experience in a leading BIM function in Civil Engineering
  • Knowledge of the development and implementation of BEPs and BIM processes
  • Thorough knowledge of the UK BIM Framework: BS1192 and PAS1192 standards
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • CAD experience 2D/3D in Bentley environment

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of FME is desirable
  • Knowledge and experience of GIS
  • CSCS card
  • Knowledge of Asset Information Management Systems

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
