Role
Assistant Quantity Surveyor in the Technical Services Design Commercial Team predominantly focused on supporting the Commercial Team with the commercial administration of the £550m Design.
The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will need to be self-motivated, disciplined and willing to learn and develop themselves in the support the senior members of the team. The candidate will demonstrate the drive to understand and overcome problems and have a questioning nature. The candidate will consider problems as a challenge, collect information relevant to the problem, be disciplined in ascertaining the root cause, identify and develop a practical solution, communicate the findings and implement action to resolve the problem.
Flexible working: The role is a minimum of 3 days site based and we welcome the candidate asks about the flexibility you need. This might be part-time, remote working, or compressed hours for example. Anyone who applies for a role can ask about flexibility at interview. Role Responsibility
The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial team on various aspects of the commercial management and contractual administration of the £550m Design Subcontract. In addition to this you will be responsible for:
- DH AfP payment assessment collation
- DH Timesheet review and management
- DH People Onboarding management
- Supporting the Commercial team in commercial reporting to the project
As Assistant Quantity Surveyor you may be required to get involved with supporting the commercial team in other ad hoc tasks and exercises and agreement of Applications and progress reporting.
The Ideal Candidate
Required qualifications, skills, behaviors and attributes
- Have the requisite Excel skills such as being able to produce pivot tables, lookups and the like and show drive to develop those skills further for the benefit of yourself and the project
- Have some experience/ exposure to cost management and review of costs
- Demonstrate drive and willingness to learn and develop
- Show an understanding of reporting and collation of data
- Have people skills to speak and interact with a wide range of people across the project creating relationships with difference sections of the project
- Not be afraid to say they don’t know, ask the question to ensure you have the full understanding of the task
- Have challenging nature to seek to understand problems and seek to resolve them and show a questioning attitude
- Actively looking to progress through an accredited chartership route and hold a relevant CSCS Card
About the Company
The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services
The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts which include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). The combined value of the contracts is around £1.8billion with the works due for completion in 2025. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
