Assistant Logistics Manager (Imports)

Job Introduction

About the role:

The Assistant Logistics Manager (Imports) will join the SCS Logistics team that manages logistics across the HS2 main works. They will be responsible for planning and organizing the importation, exportation and delivery of significant construction equipment to the project from outside of the UK.

The key objective is to ensure all movements are planned and coordinated between site teams, logistics teams, manufacturers, shippers, transport companies.

The individual will manage activity alongside our Senior Logistics Manager and the 3 Area Logistics Managers to deliver the service.

Key to the role is relationship management with the site construction teams, procurement team and area logistics teams to build rapport, establish working relationships and provide a level of escalation for issues.

All Logistics team members will be expected to work in the team providing support, cover and developing best practice.

The role is aimed at construction and logistics professionals who can demonstrate a track-record of achievement in project, people and client management in scale projects. The key success criteria and areas of responsibility are shown below. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate their suitability at interview.

Role Responsibility

  • Plan and organise the importation and delivery of significant construction equipment to the project
  • Work with the SCS Tunneling and Civils Teams to develop processes to organize and control of equipment and consumables
  • Establish and communicate the equipment plans and timelines
  • Liaise with site teams, manufacturers and road, sea and rail transport organisations coordinating activity
  • Ensure any necessary paperwork is produced and any necessary payments are made to ensure transit into the UK is unhindered
  • Ensure deliveries are forecast, booked-in and tracked using the SCS
  • Produce management reports as required by the business and the client
  • Manage significant abnormal load movements with the internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain customs clearance forecasts
  • Carry out any other duties appropriate for a job of this nature, in support of the Programme Logistics Manager

The Ideal Candidate

  • Construction Logistics Management and Construction Logistics Plans
  • Project management & planning
  • Knowledge of abnormal load transit organisation
  • Dealing with freight forwarders & customs clearance administration
  • Working with construction site teams
  • Compiling KPIs and reports
  • Good knowledge of site establishment and ongoing operation and maintenance
  • Good knowledge of safe operational practice of vehicles, equipment and methods of loading and off-loading
  • Good knowledge and practical experience of materials scheduling planning and organising deliveries to/from sites
  • Experience of liaison with stakeholders including local authorities, police and highways authorities
  • Working knowledge of Code of Construction Practice, CLOCS, FORS, Safety at Street Works COP
  • Good Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience of working in high-pressure, complex operational and political environments, working at pace to deadlines and responding to rapidly changing circumstances and objectives
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English (essential)
  • Good organisation skills (essential)
  • Good IT skills eg Excel, Word, PowerPoint (essential)

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
