Assistant Design Manager- Asset Protection

Role Responsibility

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Engineering Manager in overall management of the Design packages according to the Programme
  • Produce relevant documentation for the Assurance of the Asset protection related design packages
  • Coordinating condition and other survey input for assumption close out
  • Coordinating with relevant 3rd party stakeholders for sign off of Mitigation designs and action plans

 

  • Manage specific design packages ensuring packages are delivered on time, on budget and to the right quality.
  • Be responsible for the development of design and technical assurance deliverables to satisfy the HS2 standards and procedures
  • Work with design and construction teams to understand the impact to assets from Third Party Works
  • Identify requirements for surveys and other investigation works to facilitate design, developing any survey briefs were required.
  • Take a lead role in the design coordination process and maintain compliance with undertakers and assurance requirements (U&As)

Required qualifications, skills, behaviors, and attributes

Essential:

  • Good understanding of Engineering Principles
  • Clear understanding of the design process, CAD system, drawings and design models
  • Knowledge and understanding of construction contracts, preferably NEC
  • Technical knowledge of construction techniques and best practices
  • Experiencing managing complex designs with several stakeholders

 

Desirable:

  • Degree level qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering or similar
  • Previous asset protection experience
  • Working experience on large scale multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects
  • Working experience of managing the design process of m projects  
 

Package Description

 

 

Role:

In total 12.5 km twin bore and 900 m single bore, 500 m twin SCL incl. 40 bridges and related utilities and 180 buildings have to be covered by the asset protection team in area central.

During the last months the scope of bridges, which will require mitigation design was further defined. There are several complex bridges at the start of the NTE tunnel drive, which will require mitigation design. It is of outmost importance to get the related survey’s, GMAs, mitigation design and possession planned, assured and implemented in due time to avoid impacting the start date of the NTE tunnel drive. These mitigation designs are excluded from our contract. The role is therefore recoverable via change.

The Assistant Asset Protection Design Manager will be part of the Asset protection team and report to the Engineering Manager – GMA and Mitigation design. The role will include

They will be responsible for managing specific design packages within the sector, working with the Design Manager to ensure each package is delivered to the right quality, on time and within budget. They will also be responsible for managing the development of design & technical assurance deliverables in line with the technical assurance process, adhering to all HS2 standards and procedures.

They will be accountable for working with internal design and construction teams to ensure all works that impact asset protection are managed and communicated. Whilst working with external stakeholders to ascertain the exact requirements for surveys and other investigation works to facilitate design.

They will be expected to act as a key contact for design coordination with statutory undertakers and other third-party organizations. Helping to support the design manager with management of change control and other amendments to scope.  

Finally, they will be required to support the design manager with coordination of ad hoc mitigation arising from installation of temporary works.

The role is aimed at design assistants who can demonstrate an ability to manage subcontract design teams and a clear understanding of the design process.
