Asset Protection Engineering Manager
Job Introduction
Our Skanska Costain STRABAG joint venture team is working in partnership with HS2 to deliver the new London tunnels from Euston to West Ruislip. Our joint venture team is working on sites at Euston, Old Oak Common and West Ruislip, building tunnels 13 miles long and up to 50m deep, supporting delivery of HS2 phase one.
We are looking for a Asset Protection Engineering Manager to join our HS2 team onsite in London. You will be responsible for managing Asset Protection measures to strengthen (or otherwise mitigate) 3rd party assets, located adjacent to the HS2 railway, which will be adversely affected by ground movements occurring during construction of the new railway.
Role Responsibility
- Responsibility for the HS2 routewide third-party building Settlement Report process, including the Short-Form Settlement Reports (for buildings with predicted Damage Categories 0-2) and Long-Form Settlement Reports (for buildings with predicted Damage Categories >2).
- Working with the SCS West, Central and East Asset Protection Area Teams to ensure that the Settlement Reports are issued to the timescales required to enable impacting critical construction activities to commence on programme.
- Where required for buildings with a predicted Damage Category 3 or greater, assist in engaging with the Owner’s Engineer (appointed by HS2) to answer queries on the Settlement Reports, mitigation proposals and instrumentation & monitoring strategies.
- Technical review of Third-Party Claims and the production of the corresponding Technical Reports.
- Review of existing information to draw a technical conclusion regarding the validity of Third-Party Claims. Existing information may include evidence of damage, information on HS2 construction activities, pre-construction surveys, inspections for assessment, ground movement assessments, instrumentation & monitoring results and walkover survey information.
- Where required, assist in scoping additional surveys to investigate the validity of Third-Party Claims.
- An opportunity to work with the SCS West, Central and East Asset Protection Area Teams and contribute to developing mitigation proposals and instrumentation & monitoring strategies for critical third-party assets.
Deliverables
- Working with the West, Central and East Asset Protection Area Teams to ensure that the Settlement Reports are issued to the timescales required to enable impacting critical construction activities to commence on programme.
- Attend the weekly Settlement Report meeting to ensure coordination of the process.
- Input into the monthly management reporting process for the Settlement Reports.
- Production of Third-Party Claim Technical Reports and weekly attendance at the Third-Party Claim review meeting.
- Where additional investigation into a Third-Party Claim is required, assist in scoping of additional surveys.
- Input into the monthly management reporting process for the Third-Party Claims.
The Ideal Candidate
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Degree in Civil Engineering or other construction-related subject.
- Ideally chartered or approaching chartership (CEng, IStructE, or similar).
- Experience in the production of Technical Reports on major Civil Engineering projects.
- Experience of Ground Movement Assessments, scoping and reviewing monitoring data and of Monitoring Action Plan documents.
- Holder of a CSCS card.
