Area Risk Lead
Job Introduction
Area lead responsibility for the development and implementation of risk management and loss-prevention strategies. Investigates and reports on the most cost-effective plans to minimize asset liability. Performing quantitative cost and schedule risk assessment (QCRA and QSRA). Management of area risk staff, reporting to the Area Directors and Head of Risk.

Role Responsibility
· Leading and supervising the area risk management team, including briefing, upskilling and guidance of the wider project team, disciplines, sub-contractors and suppliers on the SCS risk approach
· Promotes a risk management culture and guidance to risk management best practices. In doing so, the Area Risk lead involves the Area Directors and area teams and functional leads across the whole project team by integrating the various parties into the risk management process
· Ensures full project team involvement and ensures the management of both Project risks (Contractor risks) and Programme risks (Employer risks)
· Provides visibility to the Integrated Leadership Team on escalated risks from delivery areas and supporting functions via reporting methods
· Supporting risk assessments by identifying and involving key stakeholders in the project team and by using trend analysis to support in risk assessments.
· Engaging with the BIM-team to explore future enhancements incorporating cost and schedule risk data into BIM
· Collaboration with, and guidance of, the project team in identifying risks and mitigation measures by interfacing with the change management process
· Challenge risk evaluations by comparing estimated risks with criteria established by the project such as costs, legal requirements and environmental factors, and evaluating the project's previous handling of risks
· Risk reporting in an appropriate way for different audiences (e.g. Project Director, Department Heads, Executive Committee, etc.) to ensure risk awareness at various levels, specific parts of the JV business and to individuals to understand their accountability for individual risks
· Monitoring and improvement of the established risk management process for the project, IT and software tools required
· Conducting audits of policy and compliance to standards, including liaison with internal and external auditors
· Interfacing with other JV partners and disciplines to enable optimal solutions to be established
· Responsible for recruiting, training and maintaining resources within department and promoting the right behaviours and culture of the team.
The Ideal Candidate
- Degree in civil engineering or an appropriate risk management professional qualification with a proven track record of managing risk processes
- Prior experience in several risk management functions in civil engineering projects and managing a team of risk professionals
- Strong engagement and relationship building skills essential
- Good knowledge of performing quantitative cost and schedule risk assessments by using advanced statistical methods, e.g. Monte Carlo simulations.
- Competence in risk modelling and management software, e.g. Primavera Risk Analysis, Palisade products, Oracle Crystal Ball, Xactium or similar
- Awareness on risk management practices within infrastructure and other industries
- Strong communication skills at all levels
- Client focused and able to adapt on an integrated project environment

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
